The recent AI boom is definitely a benefit to productivity in my experience, but it does have a dark-side: massive water and energy consumption. Leading data center operators already grasp the need for renewable energy sources. The next step is getting fully circular with water. Data centers aren't the largest consumer of water in the world, but they may be the fastest growing; what a great opportunity to push forward water stewardship and make recycling the status quo.

nona owes much of it's success to the MIT entrepreneurship ecosystem, and I never get tired of talking about it. J-WAFS at MIT was among the earliest supporters of nona at MIT. I'm thankful for their support, and glad to be featured in this great new article by Carolyn Blais about tech translation startups.

We want to give a warm belated welcome to NONA's first engineer, Ben T.. Ben met the NONA team while earning his Masters degree at MIT, and has been critical to the Product Development since joining the team.

It was really cool to see NONA get a shout-out in this article on decentralized food security solutions. I often say that there is no technological panacea. Although a panacea sounds great in a pitch, realistic and lasting solutions involve a mosaic of technologies applied thoughtfully. My hope is that NONA can make more such solutions possible. https://lnkd.in/eSy-X9aE

"solar is now helping to power the next generation of potable water solutions" In the July issue of American Solar Energy Society's Solar Today Magazine, Executive Director of Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) Bob Freling explains how decentralized solar can help end water and food insecurity in concert with innovative water tech. "In addition to being used for conventional purification technologies such as reverse osmosis and filtration, solar is now helping to power the next generation of potable water solutions... " "Whereas conventional desalination technology relies on reverse osmosis, this solar-powered device uses a small electric current that removes salt and bacteria from seawater as well as brackish water."

It’s been a big week for NONA Technologies. We’re super happy to have joined the Greentown Labs community right down the street from MIT home! The lab space and community at Greentown will enable us to build our cutting-edge desalination equipment even faster. Stay tuned for more updates soon. Big things are brewing.
