They highlighted the disparities in gynecological care access that worsen conditions like cervical cancer, endometriosis, and fibroids—issues disproportionately affecting underserved communities. No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit Inc. single handedly launched the nation's first Menstrual Hub and Uterine Wellness Center, The SPOT Period addresses #periodpoverty and stigma nationwide through a menstrual and social justice lens. Yess ?????? Great article by Thomas Jefferson University highlighting the #menstrualhealth #dreamteam ?? . Understanding the influence of menstruation on women in Philadelphia to remove the negative stigma surrounding menstrual health and wellness. Dr. Casola, Lynette Medley Nya McGlone won a grant to fund research in period health, collaborate on research ideas and write several papers. Subsequently with the grant , team No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit Inc. Lynette Medley M.ED Nya McGlone and Allison Casola, PhD, MPH, MCHES worked together to formulate a study to interview women that No More Secrets serves in order to fully understand their lived experiences with menstruation and period poverty. Together, they wanted to understand the physiological and social constructs surrounding menstrual health in Philadelphia to gain a deeper insight into how women felt towards periods and why, and how society has either helped (or hurt) women experiencing periods. It’s #CiteBlackWomenSunday and today we’re celebrating Lynette Medley M.ED on a recent publication “It shouldn’t be just hush-hush”: A qualitative community-based study of menstrual health communication among women in Philadelphia”. This research sheds light on menstrual communication, exploring how cisgender women navigate conversations about menstruation with family, friends, healthcare providers, and within their communities. Through a community-based participatory research (CBPR) project in partnership with No More Secrets, this research highlights the emotional and social complexities of discussing menstruation and reveal important insights for reducing stigma and improving menstrual health experiences.
