  • Cultural Exchange Mission: New Orleans Jazz in Mexico!????? The?New Orleans Jazz Museum Jazz Ambassadors, led by?Douglas Stone, Director of the LSU Jazz Ensemble, recently embarked on a powerfulcultural exchange mission?to?Cuernavaca?and?Tepoztlán, Mexico, thanks to the invitation from?Dr. Renée González de la Lama?of?FulbrightComexus. Throughout the mission, we shared the vibrant sounds of?New Orleans jazz, performing in local plazas and bringing the spirit of New Orleans to life with lively?second lines. A special highlight was our visit to the?Telpochcalli public school band?in?Tepoztlán, where our ambassadors and?Baby Doll Carol Harris?performed for the students, while their talented band performed for us! In the tradition of?New Orleans Baby Dolls,?Carol Harris?brought the essence of this iconic part of our culture to life. Baby Dolls are a New Orleans tradition rooted in the Mardi Gras Indian community, where women dress in colorful, handmade costumes and dance through the streets to the rhythm of second lines. Carol’s performance broke cultural barriers and connected everyone, showcasing the universal power of music and dance. The exchange went beyond music—it became an inspiring conversation. Our Jazz Ambassadors and Baby Doll shared their personal stories about how they became musicians, the deep meaning of jazz in their lives, and what?New Orleans jazz?represents to them. The students also shared their own musical journeys, creating an incredible dialogue across cultures and generations. We are deeply grateful to?Fulbright?Comexus,?Fomento Educacional A.C., the?City of New Orleans International Department, and the?Consulado de México en Nueva Orleans?for their support in making this mission possible. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing delegation: Omar Ramirez?(Trumpet) Miguel Serutine?(Trombone) Nathan Campbell?(Sousaphone) Jadon Michel?(Trumpet) John Rhodes?(Snare Drum) Carol Harris?(Baby Doll) This cultural exchange was a beautiful reminder that music and storytelling have the power to unite us across borders and inspire meaningful connections. #NewOrleansJazz #JazzAmbassadors #CulturalExchangeMission #Cuernavaca #Tepoztlan #SaborEsMorelos #SecondLine #BabyDoll #MusicBridgesCultures #Telpochcalli
