Dan’s Dispatch 2/6/25 After a spliff of Sour Cheese at HQ Barcelona, one of the most well known cannabis associations in Barcelona, I decided to make my way to Xuba Tacos for a taste of home. While enjoying surprisingly good Al Pastor and fish tacos, I can’t help but notice the influence of the US throughout the world. While cannabis around the world has a long and rich history with countless pioneers, the United States has taken the lead for the last few decades when it comes to genetics, new school hash, exotic flower, and even glass pipes.? For the majority of the last 1,000 years, smoking hash has been the primary form of cannabis consumption. Because of this, there was never a need to consume small amounts of flower on its own. Before the War on Drugs began in 1971, cannabis was primarily being grown outdoors and was abundant. Once the War on Drugs began and penalties for cultivation became incredibly harsh, cannabis cultivation moved inside and in secret. Almost overnight, potency became a critical measure of a flower’s quality, and you had a new wave of high-strength cannabis where only a small amount was necessary to get the desired effects. As a result, glass pipes became an American art movement, embraced, celebrated, and elevated at events like the Chalice Festival and the Pipe Classic. Glass pipes for flower consumption can now be found around the world, and the next wave of American influence is just beginning to make its mark across the globe.? While many US strains and flavors have been at the top of every stoners list for years, brands like Khalifa Kush, Doja, and Compound Genetics are starting to show up in medical markets across the globe. While Germany has received most of the attention recently, Australia and Israel are starting to introduce US brands that want to have a greater international presence. While it is still in the early stages, US brands and companies have begun working more collaboratively with medical farms across the globe to ensure the highest quality product is achieved. Dan’s Dispatch 1/31 Recently I've been spending lots of time at a fantastic club called Greenardo. A long but makeable walk from Sagrada Familia, Greenardo is in El Congres, a residential part of Barcelona on the northeast side of the city. An incredibly hip and comfortable club, Greenardo has focused on the local community, primarily featuring Spanish grown flowers, brands, and products. The neighborhood and local vibe is unmistakable, with regular patrons and staff greeting each other, enjoying an espresso, and enjoying the art and sneaker collections.? ? Today I’m checking out flavors like Milky, Way, Pink Limez, Vice City, and Tamalez. Several of the local entrepreneurs have requested to meet at Greenardo, and have been kind enough to gift me stellar flowers, fantastic hash (in many forms), and even seeds, all produced locally by those passionate for their craft and the plant. While at most clubs flower takes up the majority of the menu, the thing being smoked the most is traditionally made, old-school hash. While commonly consumed with flowers in the US, in Europe it is commonly smoked with only tobacco. Primarily from Morocco, it is most often made with a dry process (no water or solvents), and oftentimes is separated or even packaged by hand.?The result is, hash of varying textures, colors, and quality abundant throughout the clubs of Barcelona and throughout Europe. The Road To Spannabis: Dan's Dispatch (1/16/25) It's the 8 weeks leading up to Spannabis! I'm traveling across Europe to visit farms in the burgeoning European scene. Specifically, visiting farmers who are focused on high quality, flavor and aroma rich, hand trimmed flower. While some flavors requested for Europe are designer, exotic "modern" weed; most Germans still haven't experienced a real OG, or classic flavors like Blue Dream, so finding farmers who want to bring the classic flavors to Europe is a huge to do. I'm also going to be visiting social clubs, meeting breeders / collectors, and trying to find some lost cuts like the "Riri" Sour Diesel. Beyond excited to share this journey with you all! Quick Report from HQ Barcelona @ 5 PM on Friday 1/17/25 Lots of people still on their laptops smoking joints while wrapping up the work week, after work crowd is starting to pile in. Definitely far from empty or dead. Pool table is crowded, lots of languages being spoken, only one hash hole on the menu. "Mostly sativa" and "mostly indica" are on the menu categories, with a few haze and European varieties mixed in with Sherbanger and other US favorites.
