Messy tagging doesn’t just annoy engineers—it slows down troubleshooting, clutters dashboards, and makes alerting unreliable. In Part 2 of our tagging series, we’re breaking down how to keep your tagging strategy clean, scalable, and actually useful over time. ?? Last week, I attended an insightful webinar on Service Level Objectives (SLOs), hosted by Datadog and NoBS.tech ! It was a dive into best practices for defining, measuring, and improving reliability—essential for maintaining high-performing systems. As someone new to this topic, I really appreciated how Chloe Salomon and Nick Vecellio broke down the concepts in such a clear and structured way. Here are a few key takeaways that stood out to me: 1?? If you’re unsure where to start measuring, begin with the frontend, as most backend issues will surface there as well. 2?? A good SLO should be specific, realistic, and valuable for both engineering and business, e.g., a latency target of N ms. 3?? SLOs can serve both as a guideline—alerting teams to regressions—and as a target to drive continuous improvement. Another highlight of the session for me was the live demo showcasing how Datadog's interface helps set up SLOs intuitively. Seeing how the metrics are visualized and tracked made it much clearer how they can be leveraged effectively in day-to-day operations. A big thank you to NoBS.tech team for not only sharing the slides and recording but also for taking the time to thoroughly answer all remaining questions after the session. That level of follow-up really stood out! It’s always great to see knowledge-sharing in action. ?? Have you worked with SLOs in your projects? Would love to hear how you approach setting and tracking them! Drop your thoughts in the comments. #SLOs #ReliabilityEngineering #Datadog #NoBS

You had questions about SLOs; we did our best to answer them. We got a lot of great questions during our webinar on #SLOs with Datadog —we wish we had the time to dive more deeply into or even get to address in the first place. So, we did the next best thing–we answered them in a blog. ?? https://lnkd.in/ecw4wGdR This post provides real, NoBS answers to questions like: ?Should you set up SLOs at the customer frontend or backend? ?Who should have the final say on SLOs in an organization? ?Why would you select 90 days vs 30 days vs 7 days for an SLO? Have a follow-up question? Drop it in the comments. ?#datadogpartner #datadog #nobstech #nobs

#SLOs are supposed to make your systems—and your life—easier. So why do they so often turn into more stress and more noise? Datadog’s Chloe Salomon and NoBS.tech’s Nick Vecellio are hosting a webinar this Wednesday (Jan 29th) to help you fix that. They’ll share: ?? What works, what doesn’t, and why ?? How to stop over-alerting and start focusing on what matters ?? The mistakes they’ve made so you can avoid them Don’t miss your chance to make SLOs better. ?? https://lnkd.in/eeajEZcr #datadogpartner #observability #datadog #nobstech #nobs

Think you've nailed your SLOs? Think again. #SLOs sound simple on paper: “Define, measure, done.” But let’s be real—most SLOs either make no sense, overpromise, or just waste everyone’s time. In our blog, we’re calling out the fluff and showing you how to: ??Focus on metrics your users actually care about ??Avoid SLOs that scream, “We don’t know what we’re doing” ??Use #ErrorBudgets to keep reliability (and your sanity) in check Stop chasing impossible uptime and start setting realistic goals that align your team and the business. Read the blog ?? https://lnkd.in/e5pxBFNb Need a hand? Join our upcoming session on SLOs with #Datadog Jan 29th. ?? Sign up https://lnkd.in/eeajEZcr #DatadogPartner #NoBStech #NoBS?
