Patrick Janes, Vice President, HSE & Operations Support, recently spoke at the CIM | Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum Health and Safety Conference in Toronto on how AI is improving processes in offshore drilling. Patrick presented CADDI (Contextual Automation & Direct Dialogue Information), our custom designed AI chat bot that currently has access to our library of global and rig specific policies and procedures. In cooperation with InterKnowlogy, CADDI was developed following feedback from our rig supervisors, and gives offshore teams the ability to use natural language (typed or spoken) to provide answers to their policy and procedure questions. It is meant to save time and enhance safety.

It’s not every day that a university student’s education involves a trip offshore! We’re proud to have partnered with The University of Texas at Austin to bring 19 engineering students (12 of which were female) on board the Noble Globetrotter II in the Gulf of Mexico to demonstrate life on an offshore rig. The students were considered real crew members for the duration of their visit, learning lessons in port security protocols, performing and signing job safety analyses for planned activities, riding a crew boat out to the rig, using the personnel transfer basket, receiving onboarding presentations, and getting a full rig tour. An incredibly valuable experience for the next generation of engineers to get a taste of what a safe and exciting career in offshore drilling can look like!

The critical nature of BOP controls: After Oilgear launched its new SPM Valve range, Noble Corporation approached Oilgear with the idea of establishing a center in Houston, TX to repair and maintain all aspects of subsea BOP controls equipment, including Multiplex BOP control PODS. Oilgear accepted the challenge and the facility opened in 2022. Oilgear's engineering team, in close collaboration with Noble, is determined to lead significant improvements in performance, reliability, and serviceability of all BOP control components. Our joint efforts became a significant milestone in both the progressive engineering of BOP controls and in superior reliability. Oilgear’s engineering team said it best, “Thanks to Noble for their collaborative approach, unwavering support, and trust in Oilgear, enabling the delivery of equipment to the industry that lowers costs, simplifies maintenance, and reduces downtime.”
