Hey there! Yep, that's me in the pic, taking a leap of faith in May 2023 by quitting my job without another lined up. Living in San Diego, do the math, right? From the outside, it might seem like I just quit, but to me, I walked away from security, from the comfort of a familiar salary that's been my safety net through adulthood. Was it the right move? The uncertainty was real, and there were moments of doubt, even the temptation to go back to a regular job. Fear? More like a constant companion during those times! I initially thought I'd open a dance studio for teen girls, boosting their self-esteem. But guess what? God had different plans, leading me through a 4.5-month investigation that unfolded a bigger purpose. And let me tell you, embracing that plan brought an indescribable sense of peace. From Luling, TX, little ol' me got chosen by God, and I said YES! Yes to believing that every experience, personal and professional, led me to this moment. Yes to carrying on my dad's entrepreneurial legacy, despite losing him when I was 3. Yes to breaking generational curses on both sides of my bloodline! No sugarcoating it, the past few months haven't been a walk in the park, but then again, what marathon ever is? Despite what social media might show, it's been a journey. Today's the day I finally believe those who said I'm destined for BIG things! Whatever's coming, "it's gonna be BIG." So, let me reintroduce myself – Candice Miles, Founder and CEO of No Gap Consulting. I'm on a mission to bridge the gap in representation of black women in senior and executive leadership roles. How? By empowering first-time Millennials and Gen Z women leaders and educating other cultures through my unconventional trainings to become TRUE allies when leading black women. Lesson learned: Evolution and elevation in life feel uncomfortable until they become your new normal! It’s starting to more comfortable here! Have an amazing day, y'all!

Some thoughts from our CEO & head coach that will help you as a first time leader prepare for the post election vibes!
? Leadership Coach & CEO of No Gap Consulting ? Empowering Black women stepping into leadership ? Bridging the gap between you and you to lead with confidence ??? Let’s break barriers and redefine leadership, our way!
I was going to chat about getting back on track with our goals before the year wraps up, but something deeper is on my mind right now: post-election vibes. Yeah, I know we’re not supposed to talk politics at work, but let’s keep it ??—there’s no way to ignore the mood in the room come Wednesday morning. When Obama got elected, I didn’t grasp the full weight of it because I was just trying to survive being in leadership for the first time. But when Trump took office I was a little older….that day hit hard, like a punch to the gut, especially with the way he talked about folks who didn’t look like him. Fast forward to now, and this election has us facing some real divides. If Kamala wins, it won’t magically solve everything for us, and if Trump wins again, Black & brown women in leadership might still feel that pressure. So, come Wednesday, if things feel "off", don’t sweat it. You might pick up on that "weird" energy, and as Black women in leadership, it can feel like we’re carrying everyone’s emotions regardless of who wins. But here’s the tea—you’re not alone. I’ve been there too, and you have every right to feel what you feel good or bad and still show up strong. Check out this Forbes article, (https://lnkd.in/grAzvedq) ,on protecting your organization and your people during this time. It brings some light but is a bit general—sometimes we need perspectives that speak to our cultural experiences. So if you want more guidance, sign up here, https://lnkd.in/gQnE-bjW, to get notified about the downloadable Unbothered & Unstoppable: A Guide for Post-Election Leadership dropping tomorrow. This is how we truly hop into the driver seat of our career! ????Because just remember, your presence matters no matter who’s in office. ??? Since it’s Throwback Thursday, I’m throwing it back to Tuesday night! These past few days have been long, but the way I ended that night gave me a much-needed reminder of something I’ve let slip for a bit: networking. Walking into a room filled with people each building their own legacies was powerful. The moment I stepped in, Adriana "Adri" Brunner came up with a big hug and that warm smile of hers. Just like that, all my anxiety faded, and I got right into conversation with her. It reminded me just how much networking feeds the soul. As the event started, I found myself sitting with Elisa Summiel-Bey, Crystal J.M. Pope, and Erika Rodriguez, who quietly slid into the seat behind us. We all listened to Danielle Rainey, Gail Parker, Katrina Oprisko, Maria "Pie" Arcinue, Marlyn Gonzalez, and Valone Smith on the panel. Right then, the word “ally” popped into my head. Listening to them talk about collaboration and partnership, I thought, This is what allyship looks like. And as a Black woman in leadership, allies are everything. Starting anything new is scary because every day, you’re stepping into a version of yourself you’ve never met. In leadership, we can get so buried under the weight of putting out fires, coaching others, and driving projects that we sometimes lose sight of our why. Before we know it, we’re burned out and wonder how we got there. But that’s exactly where allyship comes in. It’s that friend reminding you who you are, that teacher showing you a new way, that mentor sharing their wisdom. As Gail shared that African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Now I can't leave you without a little wisdom, if you’re new to all this, finding allies can feel tricky, but here’s a start: 1. Who around me can I look up to as an example of the type of leader I want to be? 2. Who do I connect with on a deeper level, who sees and respects my journey? 3. Who could help me keep my “why” in mind and show me ways to balance it all? Even though I may not hold an official title anymore, that doesn’t change the experiences I bring while helping you rise to where you want to go. Big thanks to Anntonika Whittaker and Adriana "Adri" Brunner for hosting such a phenomenal event, reminding us that our businesses may look small, but they’re powerful!? And for anyone stepping into leadership for the first time, remember: even if this level is new, you’ve got experience. Don’t discount it! Can’t wait to be up on a panel in 2025! ??

Uno recently shared the official rule on +2/+4 cards, which left people heated! Turns out, you can’t stack these cards after all—but let’s be real, we all have our own rules when we play. It’s like when systems or “rules” seem to change depending on who benefits. That’s exactly how it feels facing those silent barriers in places like corporate America, tech, and finance. These barriers don’t go away just because we don’t talk about them. In fact, studies show that women—and especially Black women—often hit walls that others don’t, from hiring biases to advancement limits (Forbes, 2024). After experiencing my own situations I started asking questions, not just taking things at face value. I learned it's okay to be curious and dig deeper when things don’t seem right. Have you ever faced these barriers? Share your experience—it could help another leader spot them too! ??? Coach C

Girl, I’ve wanted to clap back at my boss so many times when I first stepped into leadership. But here’s what I’ve learned: true power is about moving smart, not loud. The 48 Laws of Power taught me to “lead without letting them know you’re in the driver’s seat.” The reality? As Black women, we’re often given limited room for mistakes. One tiny slip-up—like sending an email to the wrong group—can be blown up to question our whole skillset. While others might get a pass, we’re usually met with scrutiny instead of grace. So, here’s my tip for those “uh-oh” moments: Own it and flip it. Mistakes are part of any road trip; it’s how you handle those bumps that builds your rep. Just breathe, re-route, and keep moving forward. ??? Save this post for a reminder the next time you make a mistake! ??? I know this is an unpopular opinion... But let’s talk about the real leadership titles Black women are given when we step into leadership, whether it’s official or not. We’re out here navigating roles that weren’t even on our radar: ?The Diversity Leader: Even when it’s not in the job description, we’re expected to be the go-to for diversity efforts and educating others. ?The Fixer: Handed underperforming teams or the toughest projects, like it’s our job to clean it up—without the recognition. ?The Emotional Manager: Show passion or assertiveness, and suddenly, we’re “too emotional” instead of being seen as strong. ?The Workhorse: Given more work, longer hours—because we’re “strong” and can handle anything, right? ?The Supporter: Expected to mentor and assist more than lead big projects or be the visionary. These aren’t just titles—they’re reflections of the bias and challenges we navigate. Which one have you experienced? ???? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
