NMU Center for Rural Health Director Elise Bur says this is a networking opportunity for workers. “The symposium is bringing all of our community health throughout the region together,” Bur said. “To learn about resources that exist for our region, it helps them to connect with clients and community resources.” Two years ago, Bur says there were only 12 identified community health workers in the Upper Peninsula. Over the last 15 months, she says the center has trained 76. #nmururalhealth

The I Am A CHW: Ask Me Why? Campaign is a national social media campaign initiated by the Rural Community Health Worker Network (RCHWN) and Everyday Life Consulting (ELC) to educate individuals on the work of community health workers (CHWs) while also providing a platform for CHWs to share their experiences, passions, and resources. The campaign seeks to highlight the often invisible work of CHWs as critical linkages between resources and individuals in need. As part of our CHW Course Curriculum, CHWs are asked to describe their work as a CHW in one word and explain what being a CHW means to them. Here are some examples from our most recent cohort. #NMUruralhealth #nchwaw2024
