The future of sustainable marine fuels was the focus of a panel earlier today at METSTRADE with ICOMIA, National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Karl-OscarTjernstrom on stage to discuss how “drop in” sustainably-produced liquid fuels will have the biggest positive impact on the existing fleet. Panelists, including NMMA’s @JeffWasil, shared case studies and updates where this technology stands related to distribution and availability, as well as the outlook for future adoption. Just wrapped up two presentations today at METSTRADE. I joined Patrick Hemp of ICOMIA on stage to share new data from the the Pathways Ricardo plc decarbonization report indicating the number of annual operating hours required to reduce CO2 emissions from new technologies relative to what is achievable with sustainable marine fuels. I also covered a review on the current and future planned availability of sustainable liquid fuels in the United States and Europe. This data is key to further understanding and implementing findings from ICOMIA’s Pathways report. This analysis equips the industry with further information to consider the range and impact of utilization scenarios on decarbonization.
