??? Unit Manager Hope Benevidez recently organized a two-month, peer-led art class at the minimum-security unit of Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas. This class provided a rehabilitative outlet, teaching inmates healthy ways to cope and express their emotions. The bill that our leadership has carefully crafted, ???????????? ???????? ?????? ?????????????????? & ???????????? ??????????????, is scheduled to be heard before the Senate Judiciary Committee at 1:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the floor session. SB375 highlights: ? ???????????? ?????? *??????-????????* ?????????????????? ???? ???? ???????????????? ?????????? ???????? ??????????????????????, after serving at least half of their probation term and meeting all their probation conditions, reducing officer caseloads and allowing for more focus on higher-priority cases ? ???????????????????? ???????????? ???????? (up to $1,800 annually), allowing parolees to prioritize essential needs like housing, transportation, and job searching ? ???????????????? ?????????????????????? ???????????????????? ??????????????, offering clear release projections for courts, victims, families, and inmates, while also encouraging early participation in rehabilitation programs ? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????????? ???? ?????? ??????????????????, by addressing the issue of individuals violating parole to "final out" early in prison (You read that correct!) This bill aligns with best practices for low-level supervision, and we believe its passage would positively benefit the public safety of New Mexico. ? Join us in welcoming BACK Adam Whitefield to the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD), as deputy warden at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility (SNMCF)! ? Deputy Warden Whitefield began his journey with NMCD in 1999 as a correctional officer at SNMCF. From there, he excelled in various roles, including Security Threat Intelligence Unit sergeant and training coordinator/instructor. In 2020, he retired as chief of security at SNMCF. Not only does Deputy Warden Whitefield bring a wealth of experience from his time with NMCD, but he also proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, with a deployment to Iraq in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. ????
