Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today (11/20) that Patrick M. Allen, secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health will step down from his position. “Pat has been a dedicated public servant, and I’m grateful for his contributions as secretary for the Department of Health. I wish him well in his next endeavor,” said Lujan Grisham. Gina DeBlassie, the governor’s public health advisor, will serve as interim cabinet secretary of NMDOH. DeBlassie brings more than 30 years of healthcare expertise. Prior to joining Gov. Lujan Grisham’s administration, DeBlassie served as chief operating officer for a national All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly provider program. There, she managed multi-state operations spearheading the expansion of programs aimed at bettering the lives of seniors. County & Tribal Health Councils are an integral part of public health functions across New Mexico. Daily, they are working on improving the health and well-being of our communities. Health Councils: - Coordinate Access to Health Services: Ensuring access and promoting health equity by collaborating with key partners to provide and expand services to meet their community where they are. - Emergency Response: Whether it is coordinating resources for meeting emergency community needs during floods and fires, to national pandemics, they are the local boots on the ground who will instantly rally to support their local area. - Empowering Communities: Being an everpresent, trusted community health hub, they drive community-based solutions and provide a place for community voices to be heard. New Mexico's Health Councils are the lifelines of their communities. You can call 1-800-QUIT NOW (1-800-784-8669) for English support or 1-855-DEJELO YA (1-855-335-3569) for Spanish assistance to receive free coaching, nicotine patches, or gum. Additionally, visit DejeloYaNM.com for a free web-based service that provides online support, including 24-hour text message assistance. For New Mexico teens, the Live Vape Free program offers a text-based solution with one-on-one coaching and live text support to help them quit e-cigarettes. Teens can register by texting VAPEFREE to 873373.
