One of the best ways to learn and analyze history is by hearing from the people who were actually there. Challenge your students to hear the oral histories found within NMAD’s online exhibit, “The Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall,” to understand how different perspectives support, contradict, or add to the current understanding of the Berlin Wall and the Cold War period. The world's first museum & education center dedicated to telling the story of American diplomacy.
关于我们
Located in the heart of Washington, DC, the National Museum of American Diplomacy (NMAD) tells the story of the history, practice, and challenges of American diplomacy. Through exhibits and programs, we inspire the American public to discover diplomacy and how it impacts their lives every day. No other museum brings diplomatic history to the forefront in exhibits and no other institution is solely dedicated to collecting items of diplomacy. The museum is currently developing its permanent exhibits that will span four halls in the Harry S Truman building at the U.S. Department of State. Visit our website diplomacy.state.gov to learn more about our virtual programming, educational resources, and online exhibits. Whether you are an educator, a lover of history, or an aspiring diplomat, we invite you to explore our offerings and connect with the museum. We are excited to welcome Dr. Leslee Michelsen as the new Director of the National Museum of American Diplomacy! Dr. Michelsen joins NMAD with over 18 years of global museum leadership experience, including at the Shangri La Museum in Honolulu, the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, the Turquoise Mountain Foundation in Kabul, andUNESCO Afghanistan. “It’s been my privilege personally to see American diplomacy in action around the planet, from working on architectural preservation at Ambassadors Fund sites to volunteering with vaccination drives to being the recipient of consular care,” says Michelsen. “A key factor in my approach to museums is that they are in service to society—I think that at the U.S. Department of State, we are in alignment on that core principle, which will allow us to continue to make bright, bold choices at NMAD.” Learn more about Dr. Michelsen: https://lnkd.in/eNUTyefw

We would have been all in on Final Jeopardy! last month, which featured a question from our very own National Museum of American Diplomacy. ? The question was: "Before her death in 2022, she pledged her collection of more than 200 pins to the National Museum of American Diplomacy.” Would you have been champion? ? By the way, if you can’t make it to Washington to see the pins, check out the exhibit online. https://lnkd.in/gtF-FWTf https://lnkd.in/ecVj5Cpf

This summer, we were honored to host the art installation for our visitors to explore! Last week, NMAD celebrated the installation of the “Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection” exhibit with friends and family of Secretary Albright. The event featured a special jazz performance and remarks from Acting Under Secretary of State Lee Satterfield and Secretary Albright’s daughter, Katie Albright. To honor the late Secretary and her passion for pin diplomacy, some guests even arrived wearing their favorite brooch. A sincere thank you to Elaine Shocas, Jacob Freedman, and the Albright family for their collaboration on this exhibit. We are honored to display this exhibit and honor Secretary Albright’s service. Check out some of the highlights from the evening.
