关于我们
Located in the heart of Washington, DC, the National Museum of American Diplomacy (NMAD) tells the story of the history, practice, and challenges of American diplomacy. Through exhibits and programs, we inspire the American public to discover diplomacy and how it impacts their lives every day. No other museum brings diplomatic history to the forefront in exhibits and no other institution is solely dedicated to collecting items of diplomacy. The museum is currently developing its permanent exhibits that will span four halls in the Harry S Truman building at the U.S. Department of State. Visit our website diplomacy.state.gov to learn more about our virtual programming, educational resources, and online exhibits. Whether you are an educator, a lover of history, or an aspiring diplomat, we invite you to explore our offerings and connect with the museum. Last week, NMAD celebrated the installation of the “Read My Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection” exhibit with friends and family of Secretary Albright. The event featured a special jazz performance and remarks from Acting Under Secretary of State Lee Satterfield and Secretary Albright’s daughter, Katie Albright. To honor the late Secretary and her passion for pin diplomacy, some guests even arrived wearing their favorite brooch. A sincere thank you to Elaine Shocas, Jacob Freedman, and the Albright family for their collaboration on this exhibit. We are honored to display this exhibit and honor Secretary Albright’s service. Check out some of the highlights from the evening.

After traveling to 22 museums and presidential libraries from 2009-2018, the collection finds its permanent home here at NMAD. Find out how you can visit the exhibit: https://lnkd.in/dw7kP6sq

Streets abandoned, movie theaters closed, empty playgrounds, and hospitals overrun. It’s not March 2020; it's 1952, and the largest polio outbreak in history has shut down American cities. Poliomyelitis, the virus causing paralysis, instilled more fear in Americans than the looming threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union. With no cure in sight, scientists struggled to contain its spread. Join NMAD on July 17th from 12:15 to 1:15 pm EDT for a discussion on the intersections of polio, disability rights, and diplomacy. NMAD AAAS Fellow Dr. Taylor Livingston will explore the origins of vaccine diplomacy through the stories of two polio survivors: Franklin D. Roosevelt and Judy Heumann. RSVP by July 12: https://lnkd.in/eP4ndSWE

Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day when nearly 160,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy, France, and changed the course of World War II. Among those soldiers was Karl F. Mautner. Learn how this Jewish Austrian became a U.S. soldier, U.S. citizen, and then a U.S. Foreign Service Officer. The National Museum of American Diplomacy tells the remarkable story. https://lnkd.in/eNaSWq-y
