It's vital to us that we not only educate our learners, but we also connect them to industry. We enjoy steadfast relationships with the region's top companies and recruiters to do just that. #NorseUp #NKUHaileCollege
??A huge thank you to Northern Kentucky University alumni, Patrice Brooks, SHRM-CP (M/W Class) and Caitlin Rowlette (Wed. Class) for speaking to my NKU Haile College of Business BUS 301 classes last Wednesday night. Your stories and advice gave our students valuable insights into what to expect after receiving a job offer.?? Here’s what some of the students had to say about the presentations: Tyler shared, “The speaker, Patrice Brooks, was very insightful…I was most surprised and interested at the amount of back-and-forth negotiation available. I assumed a much more unbalanced relationship between applier and recruiter, and, with the current climate I assumed attempts to negotiate would lead to them just perusing another potential hire. However I was wrong, and it appears that most employers want to recruit you as much as you want the job.” Linh noted, “A key takeaway for me was the importance of thoroughly reviewing benefits packages—not just for financial factors, but also for growth opportunities, such as professional development programs and mentorship offerings. It highlighted how benefits can contribute to both personal and career advancement. Hannah wrote, “I learned that when you have a job offer you need to do thorough research on what exactly the job is because the job might not be exactly what you want. You need to look at your pay, insurance, benefits, location, etc.?“ Griffin reflected, “What I found most insightful from Caitlin's presentation was how to negotiate a job offer. When I was offered my current position at P&G, those are skills I wish I would have been equipped with. It was reassuring to know that I am able to take time to reflect on my offer before accepting as long as I maintain professionalism, respect, and a proper urgency.” Elizabeth acknowledged, “The speaker had tons of amazing tips and information, but some of them stood out to me more than others. Know yourself and what you can offer, the idea of imposter syndrome, and finding your potential. She did an amazing job and helped answer my question about uncertainty as well when it comes to job searching.” Grace mentioned, “One thing she shared that stood out to me was that the process of thoroughly preparing for your interview is what will give you your confidence. She also mentioned making a vision board to remind yourself of where you w ant to be, which is something I hadn't thought of before?and will do!” Kelsang noted, “The point that struck me the most was about the elevator pitch and the practice activity. From this, I know what to expect from a recruiter regarding follow up questions to the elevator pitch.?I also learned to, finding a mentor for yourself in your field to enhance your career. I think this is really important for the growth.” Patrice and Caitlin, thanks for continuing to give back to the NKU. I’m grateful for your time and the opportunity to help these future leaders grow. #BUS301
