Alings?s nears completion of major expansion. Last year, we announced a major expansion of our site in Alings?s, Sweden. Now, we can see the finish line for the construction of the new High Voltage test hall and office building. “In December, we expect to get access test hall and new buildings,” says John Sj?str?m, VP and Site Lead of the NKT Accessories Plant in Alings?s. “The exterior is almost finished. But inside, there is still some work to be done. After we get building access, we have a big task ahead in installing all our equipment and interior. We anticipate being fully operational in the first half of 2025.” The background for the construction project is primarily the need for increased capacity due to growing demand for our HVDC and HVAC accessories. The expansion includes a new test hall for testing power cable accessories up to 525 kV, an office building to accommodate the growing number of employees, and additional capacity within the existing production facilities. Recently, we also opened a new 11,000 square metre logistics centre, located near the existing facilities. We already have excellent test facilities in Alings?s, but the new test hall will add some highly anticipated capacity and open up new possibilities. “The new facility will expand our capabilities, and secure capacity for both standard customer flow and future R&D development needs. Innovation and being at the forefront of the market is extremely important. With increased electrification and the ongoing transition to renewables, market demands are continuously growing and evolving. NKT needs to remain a market leader in high-quality cable accessories,” states John Sj?str?m. #WeConnectAGreenerWorld #CableAccessories

How to Run a Subsea Cable Factory. Experts from NKT in Karlskrona and Cologne guide Taiwanese joint venture. The joint venture between NKT and Taiwanese Walsin Lihwa is taking shape. The physical factory is coming together, machines are arriving, and NKT specialists are training key personnel from Taiwan at our facilities in Karlskrona, Sweden, and Cologne, Germany. “The joint venture allows NKT to leverage its know-how and participate in the growing Taiwanese market, providing a foundation for future opportunities. NKT acts as the technical partner and technology licensor supporting the joint venture in becoming an independent cable manufacturer,” says Oliver Peters, project lead for NKT’s advisory team to the joint venture. “A big thanks to the team from Walsin Energy Cable System for their great collaboration and efforts in leveraging their capabilities to run the factory.” In 2023, NKT agreed on a joint venture with the Taiwanese cable company Walsin Lihwa to construct the first subsea power cable factory in Taiwan. The factory will produce high- and medium-voltage AC offshore power cables for the Taiwanese offshore wind market. #WeConnectAGreenerWorld #WeAdvance #powercables #energy

How do you create a safe cable laying for your cable system through a salt mine? Laying a HVDC cable system often involves navigating natural obstacles such as roads or rivers, protecting sensitive areas, or densely populated regions. Excellence in cable system installation is crucial for ensuring a successful and reliable power link project. At the Werkstatt Kabel 2024 conference, held at the RheinMain CongressCenter in Wiesbaden on November 26-27, you can meet Volker Gauler, NKT Director and Head of Installation & Site Management Onshore. He will share insights on the cable laying process in the Südwestdeutsche Salzbergwerke salt mine beneath the city of Heilbronn. This project is part of the German power cable corridor, SuedLink. The conference will also feature presentations from other NKT experts: Christian Frohne, Senior Technical Advisor, will discuss high-voltage cables designed for maximum transmission capacities. Carsten Wolff, Vice President AC Onshore, will focus on the network renewals required for the energy transition at all voltage levels. Peter Selbach, Technical Sales Manager Onshore, will cover transition technologies from legacy paper-insulated to modern extruded HV cables. You can also visit our team at our booth number 42. We look forward to seeing you at Werkstatt Kabel 2024! #WeConnectAGreenerWorld #WerkstattKabel2024 #HVDC

Ensuring that large projects aimed at supporting the green transition are financially secure and reliable is a key component in achieving a successful transition to net-zero. At COP29 Azerbaijan, we had the pleasure of discussing how export credits can be used to make climate finance more accessible and strengthen the ESG agenda. “The single most impactful action we as a company can take on climate action is through the cable solutions we provide to our customers - our product handprint. We need solid financial circumstances for the necessary investments to be realized,” says Anthony Abbotts, VP and Head of Sustainability at NKT. It is important that financing is linked to strong ESG requirements to avoid ESG dumping. “At NKT, we endorse strong requirements in areas such as climate, circularity, material health, and due diligence, including the mitigation of environmental and human rights risks. It is crucial that these requirements are as objective and quantifiable as possible and are well-documented,” states Anthony Abbotts. Thank you to EKN Exportkreditn?mnden for the invitation to participate in this important discussion. A big thanks also to the fellow debaters: Adam Cortese, Charline Vuillermoz, Daniel Duma, and Edward Okot Omoya. #WeConnectAGreenerWorld #COP29

Globally, the demand for sustainable energy and reliable grids is rising. In the US, there is a increasing interest for our cable solutions to support renewable energy use. A delegation from NKT recently participated in the PES ICC Fall 2024 in Bonita Springs, Florida. “We have expanded our presence in the US, and conferences like this provide an excellent opportunity to broaden our network within the industry and showcase our expertise and product portfolio,” says Brian Geist, Head of Service & Installation in North America. NKT is a key supplier for the Champlain Hudson Power Express project which will facilitate transmission of sustainable hydropower from Quebec in Canada to New York City in the US. The transmission line will become a substantial contributor to the City of New York’s ambitions of transforming its power generation and consumption to come predominantly from renewable sources. “While we maintain a strong focus on the current CHPE installation, we are also aware of the increasing interest in NKT within the American market. We recognize the significant potential, and the ongoing dialogue with key stakeholders and customer segments highlights the opportunities for our presence here,” says Brian Geist. On the picture from left to right: Brian Geist, Chris D. Amick, Miguel Contreras, Rudy Bukovnik, and Lei Chen, who gave a presentation at the conference.

At COP29 Azerbaijan, a key focus for the NKT delegation is the expansion and development of the global power grid to support the green transition. Delivering on the 2030 renewables targets and beyond will not be possible without a global upscaling of grid infrastructure. We had the pleasure of discussing the issue at the roundtable “Mission Possible? A new approach to scaling grid investments at unprecedented pace” arranged by National Grid ESO, Hitachi Energy and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks. "It is encouraging to see actions that enable policies and deliver tangible plans, fostering a coordinated approach and promoting bolder political leadership," says Michael Suhr, SVP and Head of Stakeholder Relations at NKT. "It is much appreciated to have the open and constructive discussion on adopting a new, more long-term approach to tenders, ensuring anticipatory investment and committed demand. This is surely needed to meet the new 'Green Power by 2030 Mission' set out by the UK Government. Leaving behind the old 'just-in-time delivery tenders' is much welcomed and necessary for the massive grid build-out that is planned." A big thank you to all the planners and debaters: Louise Clark-White, Glenn Barber, Louise Anderson, Huw Jones, Michael Hannibal, Joe Anis, Nicholas Mazzei, José Luis Blasco, Carl Heiremans, Charlotte Higgins, Emma Pinchbeck FEI, Albéric Mongrenier, Julie Taylor, M.
