By prioritizing spaces that nurture the emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being of residents, the design creates an environment where individuals can experience peace and dignity during their final stages of life. Our Interior Design team had the opportunity to attend the 2024 Boutique Design | BDNY trade fair, where the latest furnishings, lighting fixtures and textiles the industry has to offer were on display! While BDNY is geared towards the hospitality sector, we found so many design elements that are equally relevant to our work in healthcare and education. NK is honored to announce the naming of the NK Architects Studio at the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Hillier College of Architecture and Design. The naming of the studio celebrates our contribution to the school’s Designing the Future campaign, which has secured funding for the future renovation of the original architecture studio on campus. Steve Aluotto, President & CEO of NK Architects, remarked shortly after the unveiling, “It is hard to fathom that close to 50 years ago—in September of 1975—I first set foot in the (now) NK Architects Studio to begin my journey toward a career in Architecture. I remain honored, privileged, and grateful to enjoy a professional relationship with NJIT, HCAD, and the school’s leadership team and students.” Special thanks to Gabrielle Esperdy, Dean of NJIT Hillier College of Architecture and Design for her efforts to, "rethink how architecture and design education is delivered, with a particular focus on studio culture, and help students develop the critical thinking and power skills they need to use new tools, including artificial intelligence." This week, our team attended the annual Healthcare Design Conference + Expo where we accepted a bronze award for our renovation of the Eating Disorders Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. As with all of our behavioral health spaces, our mission is to balance the safety and security of patients and staff with evidence-based research into what makes the most psychologically positive environment to support the healing journey. The rooftop farm and teaching kitchen we designed for SBH Health System has been featured on Spectrum News NY 1! Nestled high above the streets of the Bronx, this green oasis not only grows fresh vegetables but also nurtures healthier lifestyles within the community. As Dr. Manisha Kulshreshtha highlights, the produce grown here is vital for patients who may struggle to access affordable, nutritious food. From teaching kitchen workshops to providing fresh goods through a food pantry and farm stand, the impact is profound. Plus, with four beehives producing 200 pounds of honey each year, this rooftop is buzzing with life. A huge shoutout to Project EATS for managing this incredible initiative and fostering community engagement. Together, we’re planting the seeds for a healthier future!
