The Somerset Probation Division recently hosted a career and resource fair to connect job seekers with local employers and agencies. Representatives from the Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage’s Office of Ombudsman, various employers, and service providers were on site to help 56 members of the public learn more about employment with local companies.

Morris/Sussex Vicinage Assignment Judge Stuart Minkowitz and Trial Court Administrator Susan Chait?last week surprised staff at Morristown, Newton, and Dover courthouse facilities in recognition of National Employee Appreciation Day. Judge Minkowitz and Susan visited the facilities with a “Sky’s The Limit Snack-mobile” to share snacks, hot cider and chocolate to show their appreciation.?

The Judiciary’s JOBS Program links probation clients with education, training and employment. Through partnerships with small and large businesses and industry groups as well as government agencies, the program has already helped place clients in nearly 4,000 jobs. Meeting with students from his alma mater, Acting Administrative Director Glenn A. Grant spoke with juniors and seniors from Union High School’s Advanced Placement Government class last week about his path to the Judiciary and the structure and responsibilities of New Jersey’s court system. During the gathering at the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton, Judge Grant encouraged the students keep focused on their paths to success and to use their talents to the fullest.

Teachers in New Jersey can incorporate education about the New Jersey court system into their lesson plans through a curriculum developed by the Judiciary and Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Education. The curriculum is designed to help students understand the role courts have in our lives, how the Judiciary works and shapes our daily lives, and how social problems are connected to courts.
