Realising the vision of Universal Health Coverage through PM-JAY!! Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, India's flagship healthcare program, is achieving far more than its primary goal, transforming India's Health paradigm. An article by Shri BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog, and Dr. Shashank Shah, Senior Specialist, NITI Aayog, demonstrates that India's largest Government-funded Health Scheme, PM-JAY, witnessed a remarkable 35% decrease in loan delinquency rates across districts implementing the scheme. PM-JAY covers 500 million beneficiaries from economically vulnerable households identified through the Socio-Economic and Caste Census with a ?5 Lakh annual coverage per family. Its cashless and paperless model covers 1,350 medical procedures implemented through an extensive network of 30,529 empaneled hospitals. PM-JAY, in last 7 years, has authorized over 83.9 million hospital admissions worth ?1.16 trillion. The recent extension of the scheme to all citizens above 70 years in age will benefit an additional 60 million individuals and bridge the gap in healthcare coverage. NITI Aayog organised a National Workshop on ‘Internationalisation of Higher Education in India’ under its State Support Mission, in collaboration with IIT Madras, Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and Acumen at IIT Madras, Chennai, on 29th March 2025. Dr. V.K. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, delivered the Keynote and Concluding Address, chairing the workshop proceedings. Dr. Sonia Pant, Programme Director (Education), NITI Aayog, delivered the welcoming address while the Inaugural Address was delivered by Prof. Kamakoti Veezhinathan, Director, IIT Madras. The workshop brought together representatives from the Centre, States, and UT Governments, Institutions of National Importance, Central and State Public Universities, Private Universities, Deemed Universities, and international universities. The workshop aimed to facilitate discussions on challenges, best practices, and policy interventions to implement internationalisation initiatives in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The event witnessed participation of 140 stakeholders and featured 40 speakers across four technical sessions on key themes, including academic mobility for learning and research, internationalisation of curricula and programmes, and the global expansion of Indian universities through offshore campuses. Special case studies highlighted the success of Indian institutions establishing campuses abroad and international universities setting up campuses in India, including at GIFT City. Several country case studies from Australia, France, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA were also presented. The discussions underscored actionable strategies to enhance infrastructure, streamline regulations, and promote India as a global destination for academic collaboration, research, and learning. Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Culture and Tourism, visited NITI Aayog and held a discussion with Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, to discuss how the ADP/ABP Programmes shall align with the national vision for tourism development. NITI Aayog organised a National Workshop on Teacher Education under its State Support Mission on 26 March, 2025 in New Delhi. Dr. V. K. Paul, Member, NITI Aayog deliberated on the importance of character and values in education.
