As a decade long EM investor, I often get asked “Can EM perform when China struggles?” 2023 gave a clear answer to that question. MSCI EM returned almost 10% in 2023 despite China being down 11%. Of course, EM xChina had a fantastic year in 2023, up over 20% and EM Small Cap (which also has limited exposure to China) returned an impressive 24%. Question is: "Where we do go from here?
