The #saltlakecity team is excited to collaborate on the Industry Neighborhood Parking Structure project with Q Factor providing #materialstesting and #specialinspection services! The project includes construction of a seven-story, above-grade parking garage with future commercial tenant space that will accommodate 1,000 cars.
Downtown #SaltLakeCity’s Granary District has been revitalized through an ongoing redevelopment effort called the Industry Neighborhood project. With the onset of the Industry Neighborhood project, the neighborhood is quickly becoming home to young business and creative professionals, with renovated spaces now used for restaurants, breweries, offices and art studios. All of these new, large repurposed spaces created a need for large-scale parking. Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction (RLW) worked as a piling subcontractor for a seven-story parking structure. RLW began making recommendations to the deep foundation design almost immediately after award, helping reduce the cost and schedule of the piling scope. The original piling design used edge pile. RLW suspected this design for this site could be improved by revising the pile type to pipe pile, but wanted to validate before changing the design. RLW performed static load testing, with one test using edge pile and another test using pipe pile, and demonstrated the benefits of pipe pile to the design, construction and owner teams.
