The p99 latency to create a Postgres database in Nile to get started. For comparison, a database in RDS will take minutes. Our P99 in EU region is 800 ms since our global control plane is in US. We can further optimize this to be < 200 ms to launch a new DB. Think about launching hundreds of DBs through APIs for all the developers in a company or by agents.

I’d love feedback on how we explain what Nile is. Explaining what your product does and how it delivers value is one of the most challenging parts of building a new technology. At a high level, I find there are two ways: By analogy - “Uber for X” or an “Open-source alternative to Y”. It is easier to understand if you can map what your product does to something already existing. By first principle - You have built something that has not been tried before or is not yet mainstream. You take a problem space and try to build the technology from first principles. You have to find ways to explain what your product is and what problems it helps solve.” Nile falls into the second category. We set out to address issues related to multitenancy, compliance, latency, scalability, user management, and customer workflows that B2B companies encounter. We are building it from the ground up and believe that a database specifically designed for B2B companies would function similarly to Nile’s Postgres offering.
