The Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) said that it had experienced a "security incident" around July 6, 2024. The extent of the data impacted from the incident was completed recently which discovered that the data of more than 500,000 people was acquired by an unauthorized user. The stolen data contained personal information such as date of birth, SSN, driver's license or state ID, bank account details, passport numbers and health insurance information. PSEA said it has worked with cybersecurity professionals and notified law enforcement during the investigation. As a part of the larger protest against Elon Musk's government policies, protestors have targeted Tesla owners and leaked their personal information and addresses on an interactive map tied to the DOGEQUEST website. Musk condemned the act as 'domestic terrorism,' while activists and officials have called for strong measures against the hackers. Along with the locations of all Tesla showrooms and charging stations, the website DOGEQUEST also lists the known residences of Department of Government Efficiency staff members in addition to Tesla owners' names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails. This development has resulted in a sharp market value drop for Tesla. The Phoenix, AZ-based Western Alliance Bank said that last year, the data of 21,899 people was stolen through a vulnerability in a third-party vendor’s popular file-sharing tool. The bank filed breach notification documents in Maine and California last week confirming that it was affected by a vulnerability in a “third-party vendor’s secure file transfer software used by Western Alliance and numerous other organizations.” The stolen information includes names, Social Security numbers, and in some cases, dates of birth, financial account numbers, driver’s license numbers, tax identification numbers, and passports. All the affected parties will each get one year of identity protection services. There were multiple outages reported on Xfinity’s service throughout the San Francisco area on Monday morning. The outage at the triple-play provider’s service owned by Comcast impacted linear TV channels, DVR, legacy TV, internet, voice, on-demand, and internet TV. Sunflower Medical Group is a multi-specialty medical practice based out of Kansas that offers primary and urgent care services as well as laboratory exams. Sunflower has revealed the fact that an “unknown third party” illegally accessed the firm’s database, copying customer records including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and medical and health insurance records. According to Sunflower this cybersecurity incident has exposed the data of 220,968 patients. On February 8, 2025, the Chicago Public Schools district discovered that student data had been leaked following a cyber-attack by a Russian hacking group “Cl0p.” The information leaked included current and former students’ names, dates of birth, gender, student identification numbers, Medicaid identification numbers, and dates of eligibility for those enrolled in the federal program. The data breach exposed the information of over 700,000 current and former Chicago Public School students. T-Mobile suffered a data breach in 2021. Now, after years of legal disputes and delays, a settlement has been reached where all 76 million customers whose data was compromised in the cyberattack will qualify to receive a part of the $350 million payout to settle the lawsuit. The class action lawsuit came after a cyberattack in August 2021 compromised the personal data of 76 million T-Mobile customers in the United States. To qualify for a payout, these customers must provide documentation of their losses, which could include the time it took to freeze their credit, money spent on credit monitoring services, or losses resulting from identity theft. A group of Bank of America customers have been warned that they may be victims of a data breach that may have exposed confidential information. The breach, which took place on December 30, was a result of improper handling of confidential documents by a third-party document destruction service provider. The information that could have been exposed includes names, financial account details, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, gender, dates of birth, social security numbers, and other unique government ID data. The popular social media platform X had multiple outages on Monday. Elon Musk, the company’s owner, claimed that the outages were due to a “massive cyberattack.” More than 40,000 reports of an outage at X were received by DownDetector, the online service-status platform. According to Musk, the attack was significantly larger and more coordinated than the daily cyber threats the platform usually faces. Musk noted that the scale of the attack suggested it could be the work of a large, coordinated group or even a nation. The Mayor of the City of Mission, Texas has declared a local state of disaster following a cybersecurity incident that has placed the city’s entire computer server at risk of a cyber-attack. The potential breach threatens to expose protected personal information, health records, civil and criminal records, and other critical data managed by city departments. Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza sent a letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott saying, “I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the immeasurable and imminent cybersecurity incident.
