Meet Modern Maker Oscar Ramirez, a Quality Control Microbiologist at MilliporeSigma He's a real-life example of how you can have a successful career without a traditional college degree. Oscar’s connections to biopharmaceutical manufacturing began in high school when he enrolled in Bio+, a dual enrollment program at Kansas City Kansas Community College. In 2023, Oscar participated in the #NIIMBLeXperience program. His experience has played out with a win-win, a job at NIIMBL member MilliporeSigma. Oscar believes that the industry should focus more on skills and experience, rather than just requiring a four-year degree so that more people can get involved and contribute to the industry. At MilliporeSigma, Oscar makes sure that everything is super clean and safe. He tests products, collects samples, and keeps the lab environment free of contamination. When he's not working, Oscar loves rock climbing and hanging out with his friends and family.
