In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we honor Rebecca "Becky" Gurley Bace (1955-2017). As a talented and respected security technology expert, Becky Bace was known as the "den mother of computer security" for the mentorship and guidance she provided young professionals. A pioneer in intrusion detection, she spent 12 years at the NSA where she created the Computer Misuse and Anomaly Detection (CMAD) research program. During the 1980s and 90s, she directed information security research for the U.S. Department of Defense. Bace was also influential in the early stages of intelligence community venture capital and was a major player in Silicon Valley cybersecurity technology investments. #DefiningTheEdge

In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we honor Elizebeth Smith Friedman (1892-1980), a force in the world of cryptography. Noted as America's first female cryptanalyst, Elizebeth had a long career as a codebreaker. Working at the only cryptographic facility in the country during World War I, she developed many of the principles of modern cryptology. In World War II, Friedman’s team were the primary U.S. codebreakers assigned to German activity in South America, decoded more than 4,000 messages, and solved numerous enemy cipher systems including three separate Enigma machines. Her legacy is a testament to the power of perseverance, innovation, and breaking boundaries — qualities that continue to inspire women everywhere. #DefiningTheEdge
