Randy stated that for the first time in our industry, media has the chance to directly drive incremental revenue. No longer relegated to a cost center or growth center.? ? Retail media is exploding CTV and off platform media, setting up a path to purchase for the upper funnel. Connecting the top of the funnel to the bottom. Given this, will publishers or DSPs succeed in the future without connected commerce. No way. Why would a CEO, a Board, Investors want to invest in any other media now that we are drawing a path to purchase between awareness (share of mind), consideration (share of choice), and incremental revenue (share of wallet).? ? Our industry must orient around what I call the pervasive store.?A store that supports the consumer with how they want to buy, when then want to buy, where they want to buy. A store that is too distributed for a sales channel to manage. A pervasive store that must be powered at scale by media and content. This means that media must evolve to deliver two capabilities previously not integrated. You need the power and scale of a national and digital media shop. But you also need your media to be built on inventory levels, profit at the SKU level, cost of sale, packaging restrictions, shipping and warehousing options, impacts of returns, product pages, the buy-box.? ? No longer can you work with a shopper or retail media agency that doesn’t have experience buying top of the funnel media. No longer can you work with a media agency that does not plan and optimize media on sales operations. You must find a new breed of commerce agency that can do both. The default reliance on last-click attribution methodologies, doesn't accurately reflect the multifaceted nature of consumer behaviors and the contributions of different touchpoints.
