What if one connection could change your entire trajectory? That was NPG for me. When I applied to the very first cohort of the Nigerian Professional Group Inc. (NPG) Mentorship Program, I was in a tough place. Knees deep in my job search. Tired of rejection emails. Losing confidence in what I brought to the table. I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew something had to shift. Being selected as a mentee in this pilot program was the beginning of that shift. I was paired with Mr. Olukayode (Kay) Anifowose, founder of NPG and a finance leader at Liberty Mutual. It wasn’t just mentorship. It was alignment. His guidance helped me connect with amazing people, rebuild confidence, and navigate the finance space in the U.S. with purpose. I truly believe mentors run so mentees can fly, and Mr. Kayode lived that out fully. Along the way, I met professionals like Adaobi Onyekaba ,Benjamin Ivey and Babatunde, generous, insightful people who connected me to opportunities, supported my growth, and offered real encouragement. They’ve become part of my journey, and I’m better for it. We wrapped up the six-month long program last weekend with a beautiful capstone event, where Dr. Ibraheem Badejo, PhD, MLS delivered a powerful keynote. He spoke about the priceless gift of having a mentor to guide, which is a sentiment that perfectly captures what this mentorship has meant to me. This experience was a truly transformative opportunity I was able to get a job through one of Mr. Kay’s connections and that was only one of the many opportunities I got to experience along the journey.
