??????Ever wondered what’s in your plaque? These super-fast-dividing bacteria, called Corynebacterium matruchotii, shown multiplying over the course of 23.5 hours, cultivate the sticky plaque that causes cavities. These bacteria use a rare type of simultaneous cell division to make up to 14 new cells at once. This finding was reported in an NIDCR-funded study in PNAS from researchers at The ADA Forsyth Institute & Marine Biological Laboratory. Learn more: go.nih.gov/c7pC0Gq Remember: Regular brushing, flossing, and dentist visits can keep plaque in check.
