Nicor Gas is proud to announce $100,000 in grants to support diversity initiatives that tackle the lack of access and opportunities for those facing discrimination based on race, national origin, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status and physical disabilities. At Nicor Gas, supporting the customers across the communities we serve is always a top priority. Last week, our team served nearly 300 families in Joliet during our “Touch a Truck” event at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park with 4,210 pounds of fresh produce and frozen food items – enough to feed a family of four for an entire week! Children in attendance also had an opportunity to see utility trucks up close while families received information on energy efficiency resources, energy assistance options and other basic need resources. September is Hunger Action month and time to raise awareness and take action to combat food insecurity. Last year, we provided 5.4 million meals to families across our Northern Illinois service territory and are proud to continue these efforts through Northern Illinois Food Bank, Loaves & Fishes Community Services, Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry and Greater Chicago Food Depository to support the communities we serve. More than 80 attendees learned about free assessments, weatherization, income eligible offerings and energy assistance. Interested in a career in the clean energy industry? Nicor Gas and College of DuPage are offering a six-week paid training program, where participants will be introduced to the energy efficiency and weatherization industry, as well as employment avenues with trade allies, utilities and other enterprises. Graduates of the program will not only be prepared for a career in a growing field, but will be trained to: ? Understand the system of a home to better offer solutions and solve problems using building science principles. ? Conduct a home energy audit to start building a strategy to weatherize a home. ? Receive skills needed to conduct air sealing, insulation, moisture control and ventilation.
