Meet Joffre Emmanuel, a young fighter from Ecuador who has been defying the odds since birth. Diagnosed with Down syndrome and then acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) at age five, he came to Nicklaus Children's Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute for hope after chemotherapy in Ecuador failed. Under the care of Dr. Guillermo De Angulo, Joffre underwent advanced immunotherapy and CAR T-cell therapy. By June 2024, he returned home, pain-free and thriving. His mom Brenda says he's now able to enjoy his childhood thanks to the compassion and expertise of his care team.
