#2024ConveningRecap: Our second day of this year's NOVPN Convening began with two panels that each highlighted the role data plays in managing violence reduction strategies and measuring their effectiveness. Other main stage panels of the day included: The Role of State OVPs, OVP Directors and the Big "P" (Policy), and Storytelling: Owning the Narrative. At lunch, Director Shantay Jackson outlined what lies ahead for the Network under her leadership. #2024ConveningRecap: Our first day of the 3rd Annual NOVPN Convening began with a welcome from our cofounders, David Muhammad and DeVone Boggan, followed by an introduction of NOVPN Director Shantay Jackson and an opening plenary on the Charge of an OVP. The rest of the day was filled with tantalizing panels on topics spanning the recently released?CVI Action Plan to the intersections of OVPs and CBOs and how to navigate working with those on the frontlines of CVI. Day 1 culminated with our annual happy hour, where attendees could network and build community. #NOVPN2024 #PathToInstitutionalization

?? Exciting Announcement: Launch of Our Partnership-Based Management Practice Brief! Over the last three years, California Partnership for Safe Communities (CPSC) has worked with over 50 experts, including frontline practitioners, public officials, scholars, and advocates, to develop new ways to understand how cities can sustainably reduce community violence.?This ongoing inquiry produced the key city capacity framework that you can find by visiting https://lnkd.in/gZCjgEw8. One of the most important components of the framework – as identified by the people who have led and evaluated violence reduction efforts in various U.S. cities – is effective operational management. Effective management is what turns resources into results.?All major violence reduction models face serious implementation challenges and their impact varies widely across communities and over time.?Without a robust management approach, it is almost impossible to effectively implement successful violence reduction strategies. Over the last decade, we and our partners at The National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (NICJR) and Crime and Justice Policy Lab have worked with a number of cities in the U.S. and Mexico to develop, test, and refine a management approach that helps government and community partners work together effectively, reduce violence at the city-level and links together the efforts of various government agencies and community intervention organizations. This brief is intended for city officials, OVP Directors, CVI practitioners, police executives, community stakeholders and anyone who is wrestling with how to help their city make progress on community violence in the near-term and at the city-level.

A recent national survey from Safer Cities revealed strong support for community violence intervention (CVI) programs. The poll found that: 1) 65% of voters believe that CVI is an effective tool for making communities safer, 2) more voters rated messages in support of CVI investments as convincing than messages advocating for more investments in police departments, and 3) more voters would prefer to invest additional funding into CVI over traditional law enforcement. As public support grows for investments in CVI, NICJR is committed to working with jurisdictions across the country to build out their CVI ecosystems and implement effective gun violence reduction strategies.
