Friday Night: Bikes, Spaghetti, and Community ???? When NICA's Arizona League started, they knew that they wanted to build more than just a race series – they wanted to build a community. That vision came to life with the Friday Night Party in the Pits, an evening of themed games and fun that brings riders and teams together. ??♂??? In their second season, the league decided to take it a step further. After hearing feedback from coaches, they introduced spaghetti dinners, not just to simplify pre-race logistics but to rally support for one of their student-athletes diagnosed with bone cancer. Every plate served helped his family through a challenging time – and it turned out to be so much more. Since then, these dinners have become a cherished tradition, setting the tone for race weekends with laughter, connection, and the feeling of one big NICA family around the table. ???? "October was something SPECIAL for Texas!" said Kim Topp, Associate League Director of the Texas League. ?? The Texas League partnered with @TrekBikes to host Try-It-Out rides all over the state, getting more than 550 kids on bikes! ??♀? These events are all about giving students and families a taste of the NICA experience. "You can't really explain it, you can only experience it," said Topp. At one ride, they even had the chance to teach three students how to ride a bike for the first time! ?? Moments like these are what it’s all about–building community and confidence on two wheels. What a way to wrap up the Utah season! ???? NICA alum and Olympic medalist Haley Batten brought the stoke to Utah’s State Championships! Haley, who raced in the Utah League, not only crushed it in Paris this summer but also came out to support current student-athletes as they crossed their own finish lines. She braved the 38-degree weather for both days, cheering on racers and signing autographs. Thank you, Haley, for inspiring the next generation! ?? Ever wondered what goes into making a NICA race weekend happen? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at just a few things it takes to bring together our amazing community on race day: ?? 100-125 volunteer slots per weekend ?? 800 feet of snow fencing, set up with 300 pins and 300 poles ?? 6-8 hours of setup time to bring each course to life ?? 3 generators per league to keep things running smoothly ?? 28 feet = the average size of each league’s trailer ?? 80 rolls of course tape per season! ?? ?? 32 hours is the average time event staff dedicate per weekend It all adds up to 640+ hours of hard work and dedication. Shoutout to our volunteers, staff, and the entire NICA community who help make race weekends happen. ?? And yes…each league keeps an average of one spare case of TP on hand! ????
