This time of year we are ever so grateful for each of you in our changemaker community. Now more than ever we are grateful for those choosing to align your investments for the just and sustainable world we all need. We are incredibly grateful for your continued partnership in our efforts to empower investors to shift our economy to be more regenerative and inclusive. We had fun making this video at our annual retreat this year. We hope you enjoy it! As we gather with family and friends this week, we invite each of you to reflect on the history of this holiday and include conversations of indigenous sovereignty in your gratitude celebrations. Nia has always invested with a gender lens. Incorporating a gender analysis is central to our investment thesis and our theory of change. We are excited to share that the cover story in the November 2024 Issue of the Journal of Financial Planning was penned by Kristin Hull, Nia Impact Capital’s founder on this very topic. ?? Why now? Why a cover feature? America’s changing demographics and the great wealth transfer are impacting the financial services industry, making a gender lens approach integral and imperative for financial advisors and investors. ? We Share Seven Strategies The article “An Investment Philosophy for a Diverse Future,” is a guide to gender lens investing (GLI) that provides financial advisors with seven strategies to incorporate GLI into their practice. GLI includes measuring and championing women in leadership, and as outlined by Kristin Hull in this guide, GLI serves as a method to reduce risk, uncover alpha, connect with and retain clients and so much more. We at Nia are gathering with heavy hearts today.? Many of us are feeling sick, beaten down, and depressed. As Rebecca Solnit wrote, “They want you to feel powerless and to surrender and to let them trample everything.” We are not going to give them that. Yes, some of us are contemplating what it would be like to move to New Zealand, or? Portugal–and yet the truth is we are staying right here in the US and will continue the struggle and the movement, and my hope is you are also here for that. We are not giving up. Yes, we may need time to take a minute, to grieve and wallow in the pain. There is so much to mourn right now. And yet we are all needed. Each one of us. Let’s take care of each other. Let’s use this time to hold each other and to build deep community. And then together, let's do what we can to strengthen and build where we can. We know the economy matters, and at Nia we know we get the economy we invest into. And we know that investors have a big role to play in directing assets to those companies working for good. We understand that until women and People of Color have access to money, and growing their wealth, we will have outcomes like this. What are we doing now? We are doubling down on women in leadership. We are doubling down on our engagement with companies, ensuring they know that regardless of who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, investors care about human rights and the environment, and are here to hold them accountable to the highest standard of sustainability and human capital management.? We are going to keep showing up, one conversation at a time. We will be holding space for our clients, inviting each of you to a webinar/zoom next Wednesday to process and share what this next year looks like for investors. Hoping you are each taking time to care for yourselves and each other today. Let us know what you are doing and how we can support.

Core to Nia’s mission is to diversify the asset management field, so that women and diverse owned firms manage more than 1% of the 84 Trillion in assets (Knight Foundation 2021). We work to bring more women and people of color to the table as asset managers and as investors. Changing who participates in trading and investment decisions can shift entire systems. At Nia, our Changing the Face of Finance internship program offers a wide spanning curriculum to train and prepare young women and people of color to serve as leaders in the investment industry. Changing the face of finance is critical to our vision of investing to invest for the world we want to see. We are excited to share Kristin Hull’s latest feature in Financial Planning on ESG investing. "ESG is not a one-and-done. Well-constructed ESG fund managers are watching out for both the risks and potential upside that this additional analysis can bring. Building an ESG fund is both a science and an art; to do it well, the social and governance aspects can be just as important as an environmental tilt. Unless an asset manager is fully dedicated to understanding and studying the impact space and has expertise on their team, their shop may not have what it takes to build a well-performing ESG portfolio."
