As Thanksgiving approaches and we all attempt to cram 2 extra folding tables into our dining area, you might begin wondering... "Do my floorplans have enough guest seating?" Here's what the consumer has to say... - Overall: 3-4 extra seats at the table is most commonly what they have in mind - Renters vs. Owners: Renters need fewer spots (1-2 extra seats) - Income: Affluent consumers ($200k+) expect more spots (5-8 extra seats) As you rethink your seating plans, don't forget to ask the consumer. Keep those bedrooms away from the common areas! In September, we surveyed 1,200+ US homeowners and renters to understand what privacy features move the needle the most. A few findings? ?? Separating bedrooms way from main living and entertainment areas was their #1 priority ?? A dedicated workspace was important at any life stage, but for different functions (bill pay vs. remote work) ?? Custom home architects signal potential market contraction, but good news for the kitchen. The 3Q24 Residential Design / John Burns US Custom Residential Architecture Index (USCRAI) rates 49 out of 100, indicating that custom residential architecture industry sentiment in 3Q24 was Normal. However, with the past 2 quarters below 50, this may signal slowing activity on the horizon. Kitchens may be a bright spot for product manufacturers.
