it was great to take North East Lincolnshire Council for a tour of the new Grimsby Community Diagnostic Centre in the heart of Freshney Place Shopping Centre today. We'll be welcoming our first patients later this month.

Volunteering is a great way for young people to learn more about different hospital roles and work out if a career in health is for them. Over the last 10 years, our youth volunteering scheme has given almost 3,000 people aged 16 to 25 a leg up, and in the last year alone, young people gave almost 10,000 hours of their time to support hospital staff, patients and members of the public across Hull and East Yorkshire. Now, under the new name of 'Humber Health Champions', we're proud to say we're rolling out our young volunteers programme to hospitals across the Humber region, and hopefully giving thousands more young people in the Scunthorpe, Goole and Grimsby areas the chance to kick-start a career in health. This #NationalCareersWeek, we’d like to highlight the amazing power of volunteering and how it’s helped scores of young people in our area go on to achieve notable career success. The Humber Health Champions youth volunteering programme offers young people aged 16 to 25, across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire, the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in hospitals and learn more about healthcare career options. Over the past 10 years, our programme has run solely in Hull, but in that time we’re proud to have given over 2,700 young people a leg up towards the job and career of their dreams. In the past year alone, our young volunteer total has grown to 289 and they gave 9,730 hours of their time to help patients, staff and visitors. NHS Humber Health Partnership is thrilled to announce the Future Medical Careers Summer School will be taking place from the 28th to 30th July 2025 at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. This exceptional programme offers local students a unique chance to gain direct experience and valuable insights into medical career opportunities. Designed for those aspiring to apply to medical school, this free three-day programme will allow students to learn from leading specialists, understand the realities of working in medicine, and practice simulated medical skills under professional guidance. Due to limited availability, applications will be reviewed and allocated by clinical professionals based on the following criteria: ? Are a registered, permanent resident in the NHS Humber Health Partnership region (Hull, East Riding, North, or North East Lincolnshire) ? Currently enrolled in full-time learning in either Year 12 or 13 at a local school or college within the NHS Humber Health Partnership region ? Must be studying subjects relevant for applying to medical school ?
