  • Today is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. This day has been observed annually for the past 20 years, and we're proud to advocate for better hospice and palliative care services around the world.? ? The World Hospice and Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) has announced the theme for 2024: “Ten Years Since the Resolution: How are we doing?” This theme reflects the progress made since the 2024 World Health Assembly resolution, which called for all countries to integrate palliative care into comprehensive care throughout a person’s life. ? Over the years, there have been significant advancements in integrating palliative care into healthcare systems worldwide. However, there is still work to be done, specifically in low and –middle income countries, where the need for palliative care is largely unmet. Join us as we raise our voices and advocate for the millions of people who need hospice and palliative care services each year. ? #TenYearsSinceTheResolution ? ? • In celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth, we’re highlighting more insights from Hospice & Community Care. We asked the Hospice & Community Care team about the challenges they’ve faced in serving the Hispanic community and the strategies they’ve used to overcome them. Here’s what they shared:? ?? “The main challenge our organization has encountered is overcoming the myths and misinformation that surrounds hospice care within the Latine community. Hospice and palliative care are very new concepts in Latin America, coupled with the history of institutionalized racism in our healthcare system and language barriers in accessing care; often a Latine patient and family refuses hospice care when first offered due to a lack of understanding. Hospice & Community Care has recently implemented an Interpretation Support Team: made up of bilingual/bicultural staff available to accompany admissions staff when meeting with a Latine family that may be having difficulty understanding hospice care.”?

  • The latest blog post on CaringInfo's Insights covers how to identify, avoid, and report hospice fraud. Hospice providers deliver a critical service that makes a big difference in the lives of patients, caregivers, and families. Sadly, scammers are taking advantage of the federal government program that funds hospice care — by providing unneeded care or not enough care — hurting victims at a vulnerable time in their lives and costing taxpayers billions of dollars. This new resource can be a helpful tool in helping patients, families, and community members learn how to spot and avoid Medicare hospice fraud and instead find and choose a high-quality hospice that is right for them. https://lnkd.in/e8EfBS-E
