Embracing change is everything.
?
Hollywood has gone through it over the past five years. From the pandemic, which shut down the box office, to studios being acquired, to shifts in #streaming #strategy, work stoppages, and massive #technology #innovation. Thousands of incredibly talented and creative people working across filmed #entertainment, gaming and #interactive entertainment, and #music have experienced dramatic pivots, layoffs, and deep uncertainty about the #future. Social #media serving as an amplifier of entertainment and culture and as a source for criticism. There’s a lot to process, and the pace of change seems to be accelerating daily.
While I’ve read articles and thought pieces speculating that our industry is in its twilight, I believe that we’re looking at the early days of what Hollywood is meant to become. Companies like BET and Toonstar using artificial intelligence to better understand their consumers and to enable content creation. Studios capturing the shift in culture by launching series and movies based on video games and anime. Music artists using #AR & #VR to deliver experiences for their fans. New venues like Cosm and the Sphere incorporating innovative technology to amaze fans. While we are only seeing the outline of how entertainment will evolve, #creators and executives are finding new ways to create value and engage with audiences.
This reimagining of #Hollywood – or reinvestment in it – is the theme of this year’s Pulse Conference at UCLA. On April 4, we will embrace technology by hosting a morning workshop and a closing panel on AI in entertainment. We will showcase next generation entertainment experiences with executives from MVP Interactive, Cosm, Riot Games, Open World and Operative Games. We’ll explore the future of inclusion and representation on the screen with presenters from WIF, GLAAD, and?the Geena Davis Institute. We’ll discuss the future of box office with the Chairman of Lionsgate. And we’ll showcase incredible creators including award winning director Mary Lou Belli and our Game Changer honoree, the incomparable Issa Rae.
I hope you’ll consider joining us for the day. The Pulse Conference is meant to shift your thinking, reenergize you, and provide an opportunity to connect with other entertainment industry professionals who are inventing the future of the industry. Of course, it’s also one of the few times that you can meet and speak with our UCLA Anderson School of Management #MBA students – many of whom are seeking careers in the space. Most importantly, my team and I want to hear from you and learn more about what you’re working on and how we push this industry forward together.
If you’ve never been to an event hosted by the Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports, you’re in for a treat. And if you’re returning, we can’t wait to see you. To register, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gYgfsr_K
