Keeping plastic in the economy and out of the ocean. Convened by The Circulate Initiative, Amplified by Lonely Whale.
关于我们
NextWave Plastics is a member-led, collaborative and open-source initiative, convening leading multinational companies to develop the first global network of socially responsible ocean-bound plastic supply chains. Recognizing that that one company by itself cannot keep plastic in the economy and out of our ocean, Lonely Whale and Dell Technologies founded NextWave in 2017. Lonely Whale led the consortium for six strong years, engaged 17 global brands, and defined a primary goal to prevent 25,000 metric tons of plastic waste from entering the oceans by 2025 across countries most impacted by plastic pollution. In 2023, The Circulate Initiative joined forces with Lonely Whale as the lead convener of NextWave, alongside Lonely Whale as its amplification partner, to advance the consortium’s collective commitment to social responsibility and social impact. Current NextWave members include CPI Card Group, Dell Technologies, Humanscale, HP Inc, IKEA, Interface, Logitech, MillerKnoll, Polyvisions Inc, Prevented Ocean Plastic, Solgaard, #tide Ocean Material, and Veritiv. NextWave’s work has resulted in award wins from the United Nations SDG Action Awards, the Business Intelligence Sustainability Awards, Reuters Responsible Business Awards, Anthem Awards, Fast Company Most Innovative Companies, and more.

We are delighted to congratulate Humanscale, a #NextWavePlastics member company, on achieving #BCorp certification from B Lab.
Humanscale is proud to announce it is now a certified B Corporation, reinforcing our longstanding leadership in sustainability. This prestigious designation reflects our deep commitment to the idea that design can be a powerful force for positive environmental impact. To earn this certification, companies must complete an assessment created by B Lab, which evaluates performance across five key impact pillars: governance, workers, community, environment, and customers. As the only major brand in the commercial furniture industry to earn B Corp certification, we're on a continuous journey to prioritize sustainability and transparency across everything we do, from product materials and packaging to manufacturing processes and business practices. #Climate change and #plastic pollution are interconnected stressors. The Circulate Initiative's new #PLACES tool is the first of its kind in Asia and illuminates the climate benefits of investing in #wastemanagement and #recycling infrastructure. Dive deeper into their open-access plastic lifecycle assessment calculator developed in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology. ?
Research has shown that climate change and plastic pollution are interconnected stressors on the environment, and that managing plastic waste can support the world’s net zero ambitions. Our Plastic Lifecycle Assessment Calculator for the Environment and Society (PLACES), developed in collaboration with the @Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, offers insights into the climate benefits of investing in proper waste management and recycling infrastructure. The example below of India shows that diverting all mismanaged plastic waste to recycling by 2030 could have the same climate benefits as taking more than 8 million cars off the road for a year. Mutual learning propels us forward towards meaningful #solutions. As we began planning for the new year, we came across this quote from Thomas Schori, founder of #tide ocean material?, and reflected on all that we had learned together over 2023 with each of our 15 members, The Circulate Initiative and Lonely Whale. Now, we want to hear from you: What has #collaboration helped you achieve this year? What might it look like in 2024? #learningandgrowing #esg #leadership #supplychain #innovation

NextWave has created a community of people who can learn from each other. When trying something for the first time; an ocean-bound plastic material, a production technique, a supplier relationship, you’re likely to run into snags. For #NextWavePlastics member companies, shared competitive spaces means they can tackle supplier issues at scale. But no matter the industry, #NextWavePlastics members find common ground on the tricky but rewarding challenge of diverting #plastic waste from entering the #ocean. Through regular calls and (when possible) in-person meetings or conferences, this ever-growing #community is able to share what’s working and what isn’t.
