"While enterprise AI applications have flourished across industries from construction to healthcare, consumer-focused AI innovations have been comparatively scarce. As a firm that has a long history investing in consumer companies, we find this gap intriguing and full of potential. Let me share some thoughts on why consumer AI has struggled and where the opportunities might be hiding in plain sight." More from NextView Partner Melody Koh here: https://lnkd.in/eyy_3tnj

"Unlike those companies I believed in originally that ultimately failed but did so quickly, my truly regrettable investment mistakes are twofold: First, the companies we didn’t invest in but had the real opportunity to ??♂? Second, putting good money after bad in existing portfolio companies where we were already investors ??" More from NextView Partner David Beisel here: https://lnkd.in/evX6UJRS

Many activities that contribute to building a seed-stage startup don’t get full 'credit' from the external funding market. Investors will take these 'difficult but inevitable' efforts for granted, even though they require a lot of effort. Here are a few examples: ?? Building Foundational Tech or Building Supply: For consumer transactional businesses, building supply is in the difficult but inevitable camp. For software businesses, the work you do to build the foundation of your products will be considered hard but inevitable. ?? Team Building: I find that building a strong team fits in the 'difficult but inevitable' category. This doesn’t mean team building isn’t critical. It just means that doing this doesn’t get an investor over the hump, it just allows them to not disqualify you out of the gate. ?? Highly Engaged Happy Users: As a founder, the best way to prove PMF is by showing viral or organic growth vs. deep user engagement. I find that most investors are more easily won over by growth vs. engagement when it comes to the 'can this be big enough?' question. More from NextView Partner Rob Go here: https://lnkd.in/dyhm-F2Z

We had a blast hosting this week's NYC Lunar New Year Luncheon Celebration with our friends over at Microsoft for Startups ?? It was a truly special event that brought our incredible network of AAPI founders and operators together - ringing in the Year of the Snake, honoring the rich traditions of our AAPI community, and connecting with fellow founders and future founders who are also navigating the founding journey ?? Thanks to those who joined us for this inspiring gathering. May the Year of the Snake bring us all luck, joy, success, and prosperity ??

"As companies face increasing pressure to make data-driven decisions, the old way of manually connecting insights across tools just isn’t sustainable. Riley AI’s approach, combining adaptive AI with deep product strategy expertise that is customized to and learns with your business, represents the next evolution in how teams will discover and validate opportunities." ? Congratulations to portfolio company Riley AI on their official launch and $3M Seed Round, which we were honored to be a part of alongside friends at Vertex Ventures US, Hyphen Capital, Edith Harbaugh, and Auzita I. ?? Congratulations to Sam Rotner & Nico van Wijk for officially launching Patrol today ?? Patrol is the only accessibility?+ ADA compliance product for Shopify merchants that automatically audits, tests, and fixes your accessibility violations at the code level. Helping merchants better protect themselves from lawsuits?and kickstart their accessibility journey ?? "The Patrol team opened my eyes to the growing challenges surrounding ADA compliance lawsuits and the shadow industry that exploits scaling businesses at high volume. The statistics were staggering: thousands of web accessibility lawsuits, growing at over 40% annually, with no signs of slowing down.?And these have nothing to do with true customer access, but just extracting rents from businesses because great solutions don’t truly exist." Until now! More on our investment in Patrol from NextView Partner Rob Go here: https://lnkd.in/dbT3eyNQ

"The global supply chain is under strain, and one of the reasons is a lack of visibility into how shipments are being transported around the world." Enter Tive Inc, whose single-use tracking devices let companies check the status of their freight ?? “Tive trackers have generated millions of real-time shipment alerts. Our trackers provide a three-pronged approach to location accuracy, combining cellular triangulation, Wi-Fi positioning, and GPS.” - Krenar Komoni Today Tive announced its $40M Series C, a testament to their excellent product, execution, and massive opportunity ahead. "When an investor finds success with a particular founder profile, they tend to be enamored by founders of a similar ilk. Investing in startups is a personal business, and as someone who is going to be spending a lot of time with a founder, investors tend to gravitate towards similar profiles. What this means is that the types of founders an investor has backed — rather than just the types of companies — give a strong clue as to the people the investor will gravitate toward.” More on successfully 'pattern matching' with VCs from NextView Partner, Rob Go, here:?https://lnkd.in/djeuNDUr #venturecapital #startups
