Huge thanks to Charlie O'Donnell, Lauren Magnuson, and nextNYC for hosting me at their Pre-Series A Offsite yesterday. I'm so impressed by the community of openness you've fostered, creating a safe space where founders can learn from and support each other—because let's face it, we're all doing the impossible! I especially enjoyed hearing Krystle Mobayeni speak on her success at BentoBox, where she emphasized the value of building and maintaining relationships at every stage of a company’s journey. This #PreSeriesAOffsite event was such a great platform for exactly that. Shoutout to Abhiram Kumar for being in the hot seat at Table 1 for most of the day. Your candidness and insight into what happens on the other side of the investment table were truly appreciated! After 3+ years of being in the NYC founder network, it’s amazing to attend events where I not only make new connections, but also reconnect with fellow entrepreneurs I’ve met along the way. Always a pleasure running into Nina Kleaveland, founder of Female Founders in Hospitality and Lanyard ?? Thanks again to all the panelists and organizers! I highly recommend attending any of Charlie’s events—they’re consistently meaningful and productive.

We've been doing this event twice a year for several years, and it's so gratifying to see how impactful it continues to be each time we run it! Thanks Dan Rosenberg!

?????? Hugely productive “Pre-Series A Offsite” (#preseriesaoffsite) yesterday hosted by Charlie O'Donnell. Heard from top Series A VCs and operators about the state of the market and optimal fundraising strategies. Invaluable insights on valuations, round sizes, key metrics, investor communications and process roadmaps. ...plus some operational nuggets from Krystle Mobayeni and Matt Blumberg (like the French Fry Test for founder workload management ??) Thanks to Charlie, Lauren Magnuson and nextNYC for hosting…and Stifel Bank, Bolster and Cooley LLP for sponsoring. HT: Jamie Bristow, Alexa von Tobel, Clifford, Sam Eisler, Gabriella G., Jared Hecht, Tanay Jaipuria, Abhiram Kumar, Tiffany Luck, Laura Sillman, Marshall Porter, Susana Rojas, Lisa Xu, and Andy Riggs.

People can't help you if you only talk about your wins. This was one of the many lessons in openness, communication, and relationship building from the #PreSeriesAOffsite hosted by Charlie O'Donnell & Lauren Magnuson (nextNYC) this week. There's a lot of fluff in the startup event space - this was the opposite. It was a day of concrete, actionable advice & discussions that I can't recommend highly enough for early-stage founders. Krystle Mobayeni opened the day with a fireside on her journey with BentoBox from services business to $300M+ platform exit: From the little things (mental shift: a services business has "clients" while a SaaS platform has "customers") to the major (check in with your potential acquirers during each funding round). Krystle also spoke candidly about the importance of leading with your multi-billion dollar vision even when your product is in its earliest days. This can be tough for women in particular. Her experience was so inspiring: bring the research, bring the receipts, and get emotionally comfortable with presenting yourself years in the future. We also heard from a range of investors through panels and AMAs. How to manage the AI bubble? What does "keeping a relationship warm" really mean? How do you prioritize your first 10 hires? Molly Alter and the others at our table handled the barrage of questions with grace. Not least in value was connecting with other early-stage founders throughout the day. So many moments of validation that we're all going through the same highs and lows together! Thanks again to everyone who brought this incredible experience to life! #startuplife #vc
