Energy demand is surging like never before, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. That’s why I’m here at CERAWeek, where the industry’s top minds are tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time: how to meet the estimated 160 GW of new peak demand by 2030. Yesterday, I had a number of conversations with customers, partners and other stakeholders highlighting that meeting this challenge requires an all-of-the-above strategy, leveraging renewables, storage, natural gas, and nuclear. The good news? Renewables and storage are ready to scale today at low cost and rapid speed, and gas and nuclear are critical longer-term options. Conversations like these are what make #CERAWeek so essential—bringing together industry leaders to drive pragmatic solutions. A recent The Brattle Group report underscores the need for a diverse energy portfolio to meet the U.S.'s growing electricity demand, projected to rise 50% over the next decade. Achieving this growth reliably and cost-effectively will require contributions from all energy forms, including renewables, battery energy storage, natural gas, and nuclear. However, not all sources are economical or ready to deploy today to meet this unprecedented demand. Renewable energy sources are currently the lowest cost and fastest to deploy, with battery energy storage providing essential capacity right now. The report highlights that removing clean energy tax credits could hinder economic progress by undermining investments, increasing electric bills, eliminating jobs and reducing economic support for communities. This, in turn, negatively impacts our ability to expand our competitive advantage in AI and other technology innovations. If we want to maintain America's leadership in energy innovation, it is crucial to drive greater adoption of an all-forms-of-energy approach that utilizes low-cost, fast-to-deploy and proven renewable energy sources. #Energy #PowerDemand #Innovation

A key step in that effort is our recent filing with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to request a licensing change for our Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa, establishing a regulatory pathway to potentially restore its operating license. This marks an important first step in evaluating whether Duane Arnold can be safely and reliably returned to service to help meet growing energy needs. Nuclear energy plays a critical role in delivering around-the-clock, zero-emissions power that supports millions of customers nationwide. NextEra Energy Resources has a long-standing commitment to nuclear energy, demonstrated by the exemplary performance of our Seabrook Station and Point Beach facilities. With a strong track record of safe, reliable operations, NextEra Energy, Inc. is one of the largest nuclear operators in the country. This morning, we shared our Q4 and full-year 2024 financial results with investors, highlighting our continued strong growth and adjusted earnings. For the third year in a row, our team set a record for origination, adding more than 12 gigawatts (GW) of new renewables and battery energy storage to our backlog – including an impressive approximately 3.3 GW since last quarter. Our backlog of new projects we plan to build through 2028 now stands at approximately 25 GW, more generation than most utilities have installed today. We are proud to help power the Phillips 66 Rodeo Renewable Energy Complex, in Rodeo California. The new 30.2 MW NextEra Energy Resources’ solar facility will begin contributing energy to the renewable fuels facility early this year, reducing its draw on the electrical grid. Projects like these enable our customers to get the energy they need when they need it so they can continue to grow and innovate.

During the holidays, we brought joy and mobility to children in need. Through Build-A-Bike, 20 of our wind sites across the country donated 172 bikes to local youth. Thank you to all our dedicated teammates for making this possible. Together, we are powering positive change in our communities!
