Quite belated, but better late than never. RISE #Medicare Marketing & Sales Summit in Puerto Rico is in the books.? As the 4th RISE conference NexTalk has sponsored and/or attended in the past year, it was a great experience--with the Sales + Marketing focus differentiating it from the others we have been part of. Here are 3 key takeaways from the week: 1?? Puerto Rico Plans are a Powerhouse.? PR is the 20th largest US jurisdiction by enrollment, yet is first in MA penetration, has the lowest MA benchmark rates in the nation, serves a high ratio of low-income and vulnerable members, and is excluded from various major Federal health programs. But get this -- PR plans rank #1 in the nation with 99% of MA members enrolled in a 4+ star plan.? Talk about efficiency and execution. We are proud to call a number of these plans customers, including Triple-S and MCS Puerto Rico whose leaders led the discussion with Rex Wallace. 2?? Change is Happening...Fast.? In a discussion on non-traditional strategies to build member pipelines, Andrew Napierala highlighted keys to success in the context of myriad changes in the landscape.? At different times as he described massive shifts, I expected him to quote time horizons of 3-5 years or more...but they were actually all in the last 6-12 months!? When you're in a market like this, with complex #CMS rules and a huge ecosystem, those timeframes are mind boggling. 3?? Technology. It's 2025, so what would a post be without the obligatory mention of #AI?? But seriously, innovation in the broker world and broader membership growth/retention arenas requires data driven prospecting, AI-driven targeting, dynamic segmentation, personalized campaigns and much more. Layer in huge efforts for training and support, plan leadership have their hands full.? Great insights (as always) from Melissa Newton Smith and Ana Handshuh, CHC. #RISEStars24 is in the books!? Here are my key takeaways from a great few days in Arizona: 1?? Stars Movement This year saw a lot of change--in the wrong direction.?Lowest average Star Rating in 10 years, 5-star plans at an all time low... 2?? The incoming administration Most agree #Medicare needs reform, and is not financially sustainable in the current state.?The proposed appointments, republican priorities and focus on government efficiency are causing uncertainty.?? 3?? Innovation It's critical, it's an evolution and it costs money.?But there is no argument that #innovation and operational improvement are strongly correlated to #StarRatings scores. Think big, start small. 4?? Regulatory and Legal Actions Lots of content and discussion around the call center measures, specifically #TTY and foreign language interpreting.? Major lawsuits from SCAN, Centene Corporation, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Elevance Health show what is at stake.? NexTalk's mission is to improve communication for the Deaf, hard of hearing and non-English speaking.?With the legal actions mentioned above and the huge dollars involved, it was exciting to see reinforced just how important the niche we serve is to #MedicareAdvantage health plans in the Star Ratings program.??
