?? Next 18 is proud to announce a new partnership with Washington County Golf Course! This collaboration will bring two of our mental wellness camps for veterans and first responders to Washington County in 2025. Even more exciting—a “Round Up for Charity” program will allow every golfer to support our mission with every round they play. With over 31,000 rounds played at the course last year, this partnership represents a powerful opportunity for local impact, healing, and community support. Delta Defense LLC - Thank you for your continued support of the mission.
Our outing registration opens on Saturday, February 1. We have already secured over $25,000 in sponsorships! Thank you to Delta Defense LLC for supporting our outing for the 3rd year in a row. This year, be on the lookout if you are at our event as their logo will be on all of the flags on the greens. This is a really fun option with a lot of visibility and results in some unique swag for offices and team members once the event is completed as the bulk of the flags are given to the sponsor, post event. Mike Lowney Thank you for continuing to support us year over year. You allow us to continue to impact our brothers and sisters across the country.

I get asked a lot about what makes Next 18 "different" and "why did you create it". I start by telling people that I simply created what I needed...and still need. I guess a lot of men and women need the same thing. My entire childhood involved being unseen and unheard and involved a lot of less than stellar men as role models. When I attended other programs post-service.... nothing TRULY addressed my hurt. I truly believe that what has been created is unique and not simply a band-aid....but sutures. I have sat in 22 camps now and listened to 250+ men and women share their collective trauma/stories. Every single person that has shared, has had a profound effect on their brothers and sisters. The most impactful quote that I heard last year included the following: "It's been 30 years since I turned off my proverbial light, assuming I would die on my deployment... after listening to you talk and educating about moral injury... I think I am ready to turn the light back on..... AND LIVE" What Makes Next 18 Different? ?? At Next 18, we’re not just running another recreational therapy program. We’re creating a lifeline. Many programs use activities to distract from pain, but we use golf as a catalyst to dive deeper—into healing, connection, and transformation. We help first responders and veterans confront what’s often buried: the moral injuries, trauma, and silent battles they carry. Our approach is different because: ?? We go beyond the surface. We combine the game of golf with mental wellness education, therapeutic conversations, and holistic practices like mindfulness and yoga. Every swing, every putt is designed to unlock a step toward healing. ?? We build a lasting community. Our alumni don’t just leave with skills—they leave with a family. From peer support groups to weekly virtual meditations, we ensure no one feels alone after camp. ?? We face the hard stuff. We tackle the stigma around trauma head-on. We create a safe space where it’s okay to cry, to share, to be human. First responders and veterans leave knowing it’s not weakness—it’s strength to ask for help. ?? We measure impact. We don’t just hope our work helps; we track it. From pre- and post-camp surveys to ongoing alumni check-ins, we’re constantly refining our programs to deliver real, lasting results. For first responders and veterans who’ve served so selflessly, our mission is simple: to give them a safe space to heal, grow, and thrive. Why Do We Need Your Support? Every camp we run changes lives. But we can’t do it alone. Your support helps us reach more heroes, break the stigma around mental health, and build a stronger, more resilient community. When you support Next 18, you’re not just donating—you’re giving someone the chance to take their first step toward hope. ?? Let’s make sure no one has to face their struggles alone. Thank you for your service Matthew and for the efforts Next 18 is leading! It was a fun morning celebrating and honoring the military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Thank you THE PLAYERS Championship for coordinating the float/parade and for your leadership here locally in NE Florida. Special shoutout to Marjorie Dennis for the coordination and to David Holland for his leadership, leading our veterans employee resource group.
Veterans Day this year was spent in Jacksonville, FL with the THE PLAYERS Championship and the PGA TOUR. Next 18 is a Birdies for the Brave member and I was honored to represent the organization alongside people that are quickly becoming friends. I am thankful for the continued support that the Tour has shown this past year as this relationship develops. I can not thank Calin Skudlarek, David Holland, Emily Bellock, Emily Furderer, Marjorie Dennis, and Cheryl Peters enough!!! I also was able to connect with a few alum who are local to JAX and one of them received a brand new set of Cobra golf clubs, which was provided by the Tour and PGA TOUR Superstore. These small lifts from the Tour perspective have such a large impact on the individual that receives them. Next 18 looks forward to being down in Ponte Vedra, FL in 3 weeks as we host our 8th camp of 2024 and our final camp for the season.

We need your help
I NEED HELP FROM MY NETWORK!!!!!!! PLEASE SHARE!!!!!! As Next 18 heads into year 4, we embark on uncharted territory for us. 12 camps in 8 states..... One of my personal visions has always been to focus on a mission that creates community. Isolation is the single highest cause of suicidality in my population and with the individuals that we at Next 18 serve. While we have been fortunate to have 240+ alumni from over 30 states already (and a massive waitlist from probably 35+ states) my heart hurts when we send 12 participants home to 8 different states. I know what this looks like, attending other programs in the past where I have opened up and connected with other veterans, only to have no way of communicating with them post-program..... Honestly, the isolation bubble just gets worse. As we move nationwide, we understand the need to bring in more facilitators to the program. We understand that having facilitators that are local to our camps, while also trying to provide slots at these traveling camps to locals, allows us to start building communities and lets the participants stay physically connected to each other alongside the yoga facilitators and mental wellness facilitators. I am actively looking to my network to help put this in front of clinicians and facilitators in the following areas: Duluth, GA Cromwell, CT Ponte Vedra, FL Nekoosa, WI Shebyogan, WI Norton, MA Kauai, HI Blaine, MN Silvis, IL PLEASE.... dm me, connect me, introduce me....
