ARE YOU READY FOR THE BIG EMPLOYMENT LAW CHANGES IN ILLINOIS COMING JANUARY 1, 2025?
If you haven't started planning yet, it's time to get moving! Illinois is rolling out several significant employment law updates, and your employee handbook might need some serious attention.
Here’s a quick preview of the most interesting changes headed your way.
?? PAY TRANSPARENCY
Starting January 1, 2025, Illinois employers with 15 or more employees will need to make some key updates when it comes to pay transparency. Here's what you’ll need to do:
?? Include the pay scale and benefits for any position in all job postings, even those posted by third-party sites.
?? Inform your current employees of promotion opportunities within 14 days of advertising the position externally.
These requirements apply to roles that:
?? Will be performed at least partially in Illinois, or
?? Will be physically performed outside Illinois, but the employee reports to a supervisor, office, or worksite in Illinois.
OTHER CHANGES TO WATCH FOR
While pay transparency is a big one, there are several other important updates to note (this isn’t a complete list!):
?? Minimum wage bumps up to $15/hour
?? Updates to the Personnel Record Review Act
?? New protections against discrimination based on reproductive health decisions and family responsibilities
?? Changes to the law regarding electronic employment verification systems (think E-Verify)
?? Expanded pay statement requirements
With so much on the horizon, NOW is the time to prepare!
