Prior to the February 10th event, the Long Island University Sharks men's basketball team recently toured a local construction site for the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE), a 339-mile transmission project that will deliver clean hydropower to 1 million NYC homes. The team learned how this initiative will reduce the city's dependence on fossil fuels, alleviate pollution in disadvantaged communities, and strengthen grid reliability. Meeting with the construction team gave the players a concrete understanding of the CHPE project's complexities, revealing how it will deliver clean energy, create jobs, and bolster the city's infrastructure. Overall, the tour offered a powerful reminder of the importance of sustainable energy and its impact on the greater New York community. The WVI Dolphin Foundation (WVI DF) is a (501 (c) 3 not for profit organization in support of underserved and Blue and Gold Star youth, and Veterans. We inspire those who are fortunate to pivot toward “give back” – wherein they can utilize their prestige, wealth, and power to make a disproportionate impact on underserved youth and veterans. Our WVI Dolphin Foundation and partners have developed a unique hybrid in - person and virtual Leadership and Life Skills Mentorship Program wherein volunteer mentors including celebrity athletes, veterans, and accomplished business entrepreneurs and executives – support underserved High School aged youth, Blue and Gold-Star children ages 15 – 18 by sharing their remarkable stories of overcoming adversity within the character development component of the program. In tandem, compelling program modules are focused on STEM, job readiness training, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, Leadership as Service, and more.

The WVI Dolphin Foundation is honored to be in collaboration with Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) to launch an impactful new NIL (name, image, and likeness) partnership with the Long Island University Sharks (LIU) men's basketball team. The partnership was anchored by a community basketball event on Monday, February 10, at the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens (VBGCQ) where members of the LIU Sharks men’s basketball team, head coach and NBA legend Rod Strickland. More than 50 local youth participated in the clinic at VBGCQ, which included hands-on instruction from the LIU men's basketball starting lineup and the team's head coach, NBA legend Rod Strickland. Participants split up into teams, learned key basketball skills, and gained an understanding of the life of a student-athlete.
