It's been a busy week but I couldn't not let Microsoft Ignite 2024 pass me by. Unfortunately, I was not able to be there in Chicago, but spent some time this week checking out keynotes and select sessions to get a feel for what was cooking at Microsoft's big cloud and GenAI event. Just finished listening to the Lenovo Q2 FY 25 earnings call. Very impressive results. HIGHLIGHTS ?? Group revenue Q2FY25 revenue $17.9 billion (+24% Y/Y) ?? IDG (Intelligent Devices Group) Q2FY25 revenue $13.5 billion (+17% Y/Y) ?? ISG (Infrastructure Solutions Group) Q2FY25 revenue $3.3 billion (+65% Y/Y) ?? SSG (Solutions & Services Group) Q2FY25 revenue $2.2 billion (+13% Y/Y) Congrats to Sergio Buniac and his team for delivering some impressive growth in the Motorola business with revenue up 43% (+282% in APAC). Lenovo continues to be an innovation leader among the companies that I cover. Its hybrid AI strategy is a cornerstone of its overall strategy to capitalize on the GenAI opportunity which they are clearly driving from pocket to cloud. As I have mentioned before, Lenovo is one of those very few companies that can claim they are a pocket to cloud company and deliver on this rare position. They are also what I call the Westeros of AI where the GenAI ecosystem's competitive dynamic is playing out from silicon to software. ?? Interesting comments by Luca Rossi regarding Lunar Lake and its premium position in the still emerging AI PC market. AMD Strix and Kraken positioned for the middle of the AI PC market. ?? Vladimir Rozanovich stated that ISG edge portfolio is positioned to take on the edge business as GenAI workloads and AI workloads in general move across the edge and shift toward inference. Focusing on the SMB and enterprise segments, not just the CSP market. ?? Luca and Sergio set up their mission of the "Personal Twin". SmartConnect is cited as an important framework capability for creating what I surmise is a portable and consistent GenAI-enhanced experience across smartphones, PCs, tablets, and other devices in the IDG portfolio. ?? Ken Wong stated that SSG is going to market with their Hybrid AI Advantage solution framework to drive the adoption of GenAI and infuse it into what he calls hero solutions such as Digital Workplace, Hybrid Cloud, and Sustainability. ?? YY concludes the call by stating that hybrid AI is the key trend and area of investment for the next three to five years across devices, infrastructure, services and solutions. It’s featured in TelecomTV by Ray Le Maistre featuring Robert Soni , Chairman of Telecom Infra Project, and VP of network infrastructure at AT&T recorded at the Fuyz 2024 event held in Dublin a couple of weeks ago. If you are a brownfield operator, great insights from Rob. I had the pleasure of chatting with him and some of his team at 5GAmericas Analyst Forum last month. I’m a big fan of his practical approach to the technology and open standard-enablement of AT&T’s infrastructure modernization. It’s worth a listen.
