When Harris Capital sought to make Gate 8, a new home to the Harris family office, they made an intentional investment in #SmartBuilding technologies with confidence that they would see a return in the form of satisfied occupants and seamless operation. In the latest installment of our case study series, we discuss how Gate 8 serves as a powerful example for building owners and designers striving to create innovative, efficient, and human-centered spaces. Gate 8 proves what’s possible for small buildings through a unified mission and teamwork across all stakeholders. Even modestly sized projects can deliver world-class user experiences and operational excellence: a true Small Smart Building. Join us TOMORROW for our November Pro Gathering, our first-ever Roundtable Event! This month, we’ll focus on #MaintenanceManagement / #CMMS at the Application Layer and Digital Asset Registers at the Data Layer. Roundtables aim to bring community members together who share an interest in a specific category of The Nexus Marketplace. No presentation is given at Roundtables. Instead, we’ll be curating an open discussion around the category to answer questions like: ?? What is the appropriate definition of these categories? ??Which vendors are in these categories and what are their skill sets? ?What requirements are buyers taking into consideration when selecting vendors? If you're a Nexus Pro Member, RSVP here >> https://lnkd.in/g3284p95 And if you're not, don't wait and miss this! Join here >> https://lnkd.in/gN9yRjuc

For our first Nexus Pro Gathering since NexusCon, we were excited to welcome Christopher Tjiattas, MBA, Program Manager at District Control Systems LLC, back to the (virtual) stage to once again give his award-winning case study presentation. “Pilot Projects: Say Cheese” won the 2024 Nexie for Best Case Study, and during Take 2, Christopher discussed what a pilot project should be, shared an example of how they can fall apart, and offered three key takeaways we all can use when designing pilot projects moving forward. For Pro Members, the wrap-up and recording is now available on our site. For non-members, we hope this will be the push you need to join! https://lnkd.in/gJ4QmAkc

We are so grateful for all of the replies, comments, and discussions that were had around our Buyer & Vendor Self-Sabotage "dictionaries" last month, so we thought we’d show our appreciation with a How Buyers & Vendors Self-Sabotage — Community Response Version. This will (for now) be the last in our mini-series, but we look forward to revisiting it as needed in the future. For when we do, what did we miss? Although it arrived in your inbox a bit later than usual yesterday thanks to some technical difficulties, we hope you caught our latest update on the Nexus Marketplace in our newsletter! Recently, we removed the category of Integrated Workplace Management Systems because of the broad amount of capabilities associated with this term — it’s hard for buyers to really know use cases an #IWMS will enable. Instead, we have categories for Maintenance Management, Capital Planning, Space Utilization, Sustainability Reporting, and Energy Audits & Retrofits to better represent the capabilities typically supported by IWMS applications. Vendors who call their product an IWMS may be in one or multiple of these Application Layer categories. ? In addition, we have recently added a category to the Data Layer called Digital Asset Register. A Digital Asset Register is the type of Data Layer that typically supports IWMS applications. Our definition of a Digital Asset Register is: ? Data Layers that organize, track, and categorize assets enabling broad use cases and outcomes. Digital Asset Registers focus on data about the physical assets that operate the building, like manufacturer, model number, warranty dates, lifecycle information, portfolio-wide trends and statistics, and more. What do you think about these changes? And if you haven't joined the Marketplace yet, what are you waiting for >> https://lnkd.in/gXFCRDcd #maintenance #propertymanagement #sustainability #smartbuildings

?????? is how we feel about FPC Global's write-up on their time at #NexusCon! Thank you so much for the (many) kind words and for being a part of our community!?
In early October,?Nexus Labs, a very popular source of podcasts, whitepapers and technical articles aimed at smart buildings enthusiasts, ventured into new territory and brought their growing community together for a first of its kind event. We have been reflecting since the inaugural event, two things made this event different. First, it was focused primarily on its loyal community of industry experts. The community is what created the event, not the other way around. Second, the well known “complaints” about typical industry events were critical inputs that influenced the planning and format of NexusCon. FPC Global?has engaged with Nexus Labs and their marketplace over the past 12 months. It was great to increase our participation by attending this event in person and participating in a variety of sessions. FPC presented information about the business framework we feel is required to scale digital building technologies across your portfolio. We provided a session that highlighted the pitfalls of the current design-build process and how to avoid them in future projects. FPC also had the privilege of moderating the first ever discussion between vendors and buyers to share what we all can do to help move the industry forward and to stop derailing progress. To wrap up NexusCon,?James Dice?asked the audience 4 questions, and it is these that we wanted to reflect on in this article. What was a key learning from the event? What is a key takeaway that we had from the event? Someone you’ll stay in touch with? Something you’ll do to push the industry forward? FPC’s?Brian Vaughn?attended the event along with our?James Atkins?and Curtis Hilger, Brian’s response to the first question was “We can have real conversations without hyperbole and NO ONE died.” Often with panels, people over hype things or speak to ideal states and rarely speak to reality and never to failures. NexusCon showed that putting the right guidelines together can help foster more real conversations where we all can learn. Another key learning is there is still a long way to go in terms of bridging the client and vendor divide and the way to start reducing that divide is to work together, collaboratively as one. The challenge we all have ahead of us is big enough with opportunities aplenty for all. We’re not as far away as we may make each other think. Let’s remember why we’re doing this, it’s all for great and really important reasons! Read more... https://lnkd.in/e9ZdcfKd
