At the New York Center for Living, we know that recovery thrives on connection. Earlier this month, we hosted a networking breakfast to bring together professionals from across disciplines to share ideas, foster collaboration, and strengthen the support system for families navigating substance use and its associated mental health challenges. Substance Use and Mental Health Care for Adolescents, Young Adults and Families
关于我们
The New York Center for Living is dedicated to one purpose: helping young people and their families work through the web of problems caused by the use and abuse of addictive substances, both legal and illegal. We are a vital source for families around the country looking for information and help for the young people in their lives who have problems with substance abuse and other co-occurring disorders. Our treatment program was developed by experienced professionals who understand the young mind and their behavioral patterns. We focus on the needs of teens and young adults who begin and continue to use addictive substances in response to the daily pressures of adolescence and urban and suburban life. We emphasize the importance of addressing problems as soon as they come to light. At the New York Center for Living, we understand substance use touches more than one area of an addict's life. It affects the whole person physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, and our treatment philosophy addresses all the areas of these life areas, including family, mental health, school, nutrition, and the social environment. We support the use of an innovative 12-step philosophy to help our members and their families become healthy and productive again. Our caring, experienced clinical staff and primary therapists provide a great deal of personal support, guidance and respect so lives can be made whole.

In this blog post, we explore the implications of these factors normalizing cannabis use and what parents, clinicians, and educators can do to address these challenges: https://ow.ly/oQ0l50Vc5yo

?? FREE IN-PERSON CE EVENT for Social Workers, MFTs, and CASACs licensed in New York: Navigating Confidentiality and Disclosures with Adolescent Clients and Their Guardians | Friday, February 7th, 2025 ?? The New York Center for Living is so proud to be partnering with Newport Healthcare and MAIA Education Resource Center to host this timely and relevant training, focusing on building the skills and knowledge to effectively navigate the delicate balance between confidentiality and disclosures when working with adolescent clients and their guardians. Adolescents often grapple with issues such as identity, autonomy, and privacy, while guardians seek insights into their child's well-being. Striking the right balance in communication is crucial for building trust and ensuring the therapeutic process is both ethical and effective. We will cover effective communication strategies and best practices for documentation, and use case studies and role-playing exercises to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to: - Understand the legal and ethical landscape around the treatment of adolescents for substance use and mental health issues - Effectively balance creating a safe, therapeutic environment for minor clients while ensuring parents and caregivers are appropriately informed - Develop and enhance intervention strategies and approaches that promote family recovery Presenters include NYCFL Clinical Director Ben Mushlin, Director of Newport's CT Outpatient Program Hannah Chesser, and MAIA's Founder and Director Sharon Thomas. Some of our clients enjoyed an early dinner on Friday and then attended the Off Broadway show "Ashes & Ink," a gripping story about a mother who is grappling with the death of her husband and is desperate to pull her son back from the edge of addiction. The playbill for the show featured an ad for our Center, further demonstrating our commitment to helping families in our area achieve and sustain their recovery. At the New York Center for Living, our mission is to help young people and their families develop a strong foundation for recovery, based upon early intervention, cutting-edge clinical care, and access to peer support. Harvesting Hope at the New York Center for Living! In a unique twist on a pumpkin patch visit, our young people selected beautiful gourds and pumpkins to decorate, fostering a sense of community and self-expression. This activity allowed them to embrace the spirit of the season and it also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of nurturing our mental and emotional well-being. Our clients bonded over shared creativity, laughter, and the joy of building something together. It’s moments like these that reinforce the strength of community and the beauty of recovery. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and made this event possible! Let’s continue to support one another on this journey of healing and growth. #NewYorkCenterForLiving #RecoveryJourney #NYCFL
