I’m thrilled to announce that this year’s VC Day DMV and Newwave Foundation's Pitch Perfect Competition will be hosted by the incredible Kiante Bush, MBA—a dynamic tech leader, entrepreneur, and ecosystem builder. ? Kiante is an Award-Winning Tech Leader, Angel Investor, and Founder of Venture for T.H.E.M., a DC-based startup launchpad supporting HBCU founders with non-dilutive funding and mentorship. He’s worked with industry giants like Accenture, Deloitte, and Booz Allen, and partners with brands like Microsoft, Google, and The White House to bring resources to HBCUs. He is a proud Morgan State University graduate, earning magna cum laude honors in engineering and later an MBA at the top of his class. Some people always knew they were destined to be entrepreneurs. That wasn't me............. I grew up being taught to study hard, get a good education, land a stable job with benefits, and then retirement. Sound familiar? Don’t get me wrong—I admire my parents for doing just that. But everything changed when I married an entrepreneur. Have you heard the saying that you become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with? Well, try living with one! Entrepreneurship rubbed off quickly, and almost 20 years ago, I made the bold decision to leave my “good job with benefits” and jump into business full time. Let’s just say I must have been a constant in my parents’ prayers. Now, I can’t imagine being on any other path. Seeing a vision become reality is the best feeling in the world. As a parent and mentor today, I encourage young people to pay attention to their passions and the problems they can’t stop thinking about solving. Education is important, but it comes in many forms—there’s no substitute for real-world experience. My advice? Test your ideas, apply to pitch competitions, and look for ways to become an employer, not just an employee. That’s why I’m so excited to announce Newwave Foundation's 4th annual Pitch Perfect Competition on November 8th! ???
