Newton County Industrial Development Authority and the Newton Chamber Unite to Aid Hurricane Helene Victims In a remarkable display of community spirit and solidarity, the NCIDA and Newton Chamber joined forces to raise relief supplies for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. In just 72 hours, local industries, churches, and citizens have come together to collect essential supplies for residents of Warren County and Columbia/Richmond County. Two semi-trucks, loaded with 23 pallets each, departed from Newton County filled with critical supplies aimed at aiding the hurricane-affected communities. Among the generous contributions were over 2,500 boxes of cereal donated by General Mills, 8 pallets of bottled water, 400,000 Clorox wipes from Dovestone Church and LatReb Logistics, LLC, and over 200 buckets that can be filled with relief essentials. Additional items included diapers, personal hygiene products, food, blankets, and chainsaws for recovery efforts. The fundraising efforts exceeded expectations, with over $13,000 raised in financial donations to purchase chainsaws and generators for the affected areas. Special thanks go to Sigma Logistics and Li-Way Trucking, whose generous contributions of semi-trucks and drivers made the delivery of these vital supplies possible. The success of this relief operation was also made possible by the invaluable support from local organizations. The City of Covington's Facilities and Maintenance Department, Newton County's Public Works and Water Resources Department, and dedicated volunteers from Snapping Shoals all played essential roles in boxing and loading the supplies onto the trucks. As recovery efforts continue, the Newton Chamber and the Newton County Industrial Development Authority remain committed to supporting our neighbors in need.
