Think of CPEB4 as a movie director in a big film production. In a movie set, there are many actors (proteins) waiting for their roles. However, they can’t just start acting randomly—they need a script (RNA) and a director (CPEB4) to tell them when and how to perform. CPEB4 works in the cell by deciding when certain RNA messages should be read and turned into proteins. These proteins are essential for brain function, stress responses, and even preventing diseases. If CPEB4 doesn’t work properly, it’s like a director giving bad instructions—some actors might come in too early, others too late, and the whole movie (cell function) can become chaotic. This can lead to problems in the brain, like neurodevelopmental disorders, or diseases such as cancer.
With #autism #diagnoses now at 1 in 36 children, researchers are racing to understand its causes and develop new treatments. Dr. Xavier Salvador and Dr. Carla Garcia from IRB Barcelona, a leading biomedical institute in Spain, revealed a major discovery about idiopathic autism—cases without a known #genetic #mutation. Their findings uncover how a missing protein fragment disrupts #neurodevelopment, shedding light on potential therapeutic solutions. “Important New Research on Autism” is now on the Curious by Nature podcast with IRB Barcelona Experts. Missile defense: it’s about strategy, precision, and sometimes, hard limits. This week, we’re taking a closer look at #Israel’s #IronDome and the layered defense systems like the Arrow and the David’s Sling that protect against modern threats. Our guest, #global #security expert Wes Rumbaugh, breaks down how these systems work, what they can (and can’t) do, and why hitting a missile in mid-air is #rocket #science. Plus, we dive into the U.S.’s role and challenges. “Why Is Missile Defense More Than ‘Hitting a Bullet with a Bullet’?” is now on the Curious by Nature podcast with Wes Rumbaugh. Follow us!
